These are marvellous pistols, originally designed for cavalry they have a very positive trigger pull; I imagine it was made so strong to avoid the misfortune of a rider having a negligent discharge and shooting his horse in the back of the head! They were adopted by early aircrew as well. I had the good fortune to document and photograph one of these pistols, with a leather holster I think, for "Explosion! the Museum of Naval Firepower" in Gosport, Hamshire, UK. (Well worth a visit). As far as I remember it was surrendered by a German Naval Officer in 1918.

@@JosipRadnik1 you know your stuff! I'm an amateur at best. I'm not sure on the gun laws here primarily because I have never thought to own a gun. But I'm pretty sure you are right about black powder, its fairly easy to get here and our re-enactments are fairly popular but as to everything else I don't know. All I do know is that guns are no where near as popular here as they are else where like America. And even then I don't fully understand what you need to own a firearm there or anywhere else. The whole story of how the gun got ordered sounds very much Austrian. Comission decides something. Comission goes home and does nothing for a year and then requests some minor changes. Decission is delegated upwards and nothing happens for another one and a half years. Decission is adopted having probably taken double or tripple the time necessary. Come to think of it, this also perfectly describes the process of how houseworks or repairs are done in my home.

The version without a safety has a square button looking thing that was not on the version with a safety. what was that? I was surprised you did not mention it when discussing the differences.

Bolt catch - if you're loading without a clip, push that in to keep the bolt open. The earlier version didn't need a separate button because the safety also locked the bolt in place.

Steyr should make a modern 9x19mm pistol with a similar rotating barrel locking system instead of trying to make a slightly improved Glock.

It's "Rawd" not "Roth*" and "Munnlisher" not "Munnlicker", but with the second name you are getting better, being almost there. I bet, i'm not sure, that it's "Tayodorowitch" not "*Theodorowick", too. Also it's "Sh-tire". One day you will master all them german weapon manufacturer names, i'm sure. The book title was great, though, which gives lots of hope for your German in the future.

We've given up. Ian speaks English and some French... but butchers every other language like a boss. Which is to be expected, as nearly every country has had some cool guns, and we can't expect him to learn every language... When he was at Tøjhusmuseet in Denmark I was rolling on the floor laughing as he did his best to guestimate Danish in to some half English, half French pronunciation that was as cute as it was horrible :P

@@andersjjensen I see. Well, it would be quite some languages indeed and Danish is not that easy. Nevertheless i'm positive.
