The Rothco Jungle Boots have served me well over the last 8 months, and I want to give you all an idea of my experiences, good and bad.

I've owned three genuine surplus pairs of jungle boots, one expensive Altama pair, and a pair of Rothcos. The Rothcos have outlasted them all. They're the best set out there by a mile. People online who complain about them not being durable enough have no experience with this type of boot to begin with, and are comparing them to something like jump boots. Unlike other types of combat boots, jungle boots were built from day one to be disposable rather than repairable. Once you understand that, it changes the game. Considering that, my Rothcos have given me more than four times my money's worth compared to more expensive jungle boots, and they aren't quitting yet. They were comparatively horrible to break in as the leather isn't as soft, but once they were, they were great.

I had a pair of originals back in the 90's. Been on the hunt for my size since. Probably just going to go with McRae jungle boots. It's the last piece of kit I need for my set up. Yes I have a ton of the modern boots, I just prefer the old school boots. I have a pair of original winter leather boots, just not my size. Plus a pair of jump boots. The rothco boots are $25 at a chain surplus store in new england called 'the barracks' , been tempted to buy a pair just for testing purposes.

I had good results with mine. I can't see justifying spending more than 50 for a pair of boots like this. Seems like they got the manufacturing process down pretty well

I am planning a 4 day venture into a swamp where my feet will be wet and muddy the whole time. I anticipate hiking around 20 - 25 miles total over the 4 days. A jungle boot makes the most sense so I bought a pair of Rothcos. I’m concerned about the soles separating while I’m out there. If that happens, I’ll wrap duct tape around them and continue the mission. I took them on a 5 mile hike today and the leather is already cracking. It looks like they painted the leather with rubber paint and it’s cracking off. I’m not sure these are real leather, either. Looks like recycled leather bits glued together - like plywood except leather instead of wood. Coated with a paint. I’m treating them with Obenaufs Leather Preservative which is beeswax but it’s not soaking in at all. We’ll see it these survive! I’ll take the best care of them that I can but if they make it thru the adventure, they will have served their purpose.

Dollar for dollar, you just can’t beat this boot. Like you said, will outlast others 3 times the price

I just got some generic boot sole inserts from walmart and they did me good. Because I, too wore them for a while without an insert. And like you said, it was very uncomfortable.
