Beautiful and abandoned, old and modern, diverse and different, this is Rotherham South Yorkshire.

I remember the 1960’s as a small child shopping with my mother in the old indoor markets, visits with my father to the old slUghter yard, eventually in the 70’s working in the town centre, xmas time was full of lights, its so sad to see it now, parkgate&meadowhall shopping killed it.used to be packed out many moons ago 😢

You missed out a big chunk of the town centre with the indoor and outdoor market. You seem to have concentrated on the bad bits of the town but I am shocked to see all the overseas people who seem to dominate the town centre. I have lived here for 66 years and don’t feel safe in the town centre or the park for that matter. Two of my sons have been attacked by people from foreign countries while trying to be robbed by them there. On another occasion my eldest son was knocked out by immigrants from behind while visiting a relative in a no go area. He was told that this was their area and he wasn’t allowed to be there. My eldest 2 boys have now actually left the town that they were born in. It’s a shame how Rotherham has deteriorated so quickly in the last 25 years.

Hi. Thank you for watching and sharing your view. You're right, I didn't show everything in Rotherham. I had just 2 hours before my job. But I showed everything where I walked. Also, I don't think that all these abandoned buildings are ugly, quite opposite, many of those houses are really amazing. They just need to be repaired and maintained. In overall, Rotherham is nice town, great location, has potential for development.

The Forge Island is a big improvement. I think the best plan for the town centre would be to remove the pedestrian areas and make it accessable by cars again how it was in the 80s. It meant you could drive into town and pop into shops. Fond memories of spending my weekend in the 80s there getting up to all sorts.

Pedestrianisation (loved by Socialist Councils) is the death knell for any town centre. If people can't drive in and park they simply go elsewhere - even if it's miles away.

I was born in London 1964. Lived in and around Rotherham since 1968. It was fabulous when I moved back to the centre in 1988. Anything I wanted was just 5 minutes walk away. It's now a complete dump.

As I mentioned, looks abandoned. All these buildings once nice and beautiful are just ruins now... Sad

I can see a lot money has been spent on hard standing areas. But town is devoid of colour , flowering colourful plants have been cut out of the regeneration.....nothing for the general public to admire.

Thank you for watching and sharing your view. To me, it's a gorgeous town but looks very devastated. Maybe something going to be done in the future

Born in Rotherham and left it in 1982. It's not improved much over the years, but it's no different to anywhere else. There are good bits and bad bits. It's forever tainted by the grooming scandal.
