A lot right here, probably the best analysis I've seen. Only goes wrong with the false premise that one should need or that everyone would want to pass the marshmallow test. For one it underestimates the power of non-distant rewards can be much better bets & have much better pay-offs than distant ones, especially given time & youth are our most intractable resources. Secondly it ignores that even if one does get extra marshmallows later, they just may not be good enough rewards. And lastly and most importantly, it ignores that one may blame society for most of the problem: for the lack of immediate marshmallows, for their being dangerous (because they're illegal), and for their being disruptive as they are (only because of society's too-high impositions on our lives). Thus *conforming* to the marshmallow test becomes what's to be resisted, cos morality. Destruction is not 'self destruction' when a social environment is unnecessarily one of its causes.
