Dude! 4:45 is the best! How do I get one of those Bastards?

Yo Pops, From whence do you come - or - in other words, where in the world do you live? Tell me that and I might be able to direct you to an outlet for this lovely engine but...you must be a good boy as this is a very special engine. (HoHo) Regards Brian Oily - you can Email me personally at oilyhand@bigpond.net.au

Hi Brian, I love the engine! What a stunning piece! Can you recommend a good source for coolpower oils? Thank you, Craig

Yo Craig , Yes Craig - too nice to put into a model aircraft - ideal sitting on the mantelpiece in the dining room (Ho Ho). I need to know where you live to assist you with Coolpower. You can email me at oilyhand@bigpond.net.au and tell me where you are. Thank you for your interest in my tests. More to come soon. Regards Brian Oily

Yo Steve, I hope you understand that I am just providing a LOOK at this engine running and not GIVING you the engine (Ho H0). Certainly is a nice job and very desirable. I will be testing the smaller OS Pegasus soon which is also a four across engine. Thank you for your interest. Brian Oily

can not find the hp rating, i guess it must be around 10 hp?

Sir, can I ask you how loud this engine is? Here in Belgium we have some restrictions, for example: we cant go above 85 decibel on gas engines above 30 cc thanks! Regards!
@BrianOilyEngines7 жыл бұрын
Yo Belgium, Being a multi cylinder four stroke engine it is very quiet running as is the case for all similar engines. As well, being a four stroke petrol engine it will tolerate quite a lot of muffling - additional silencing fixtures - with out losing power. When you compare this to the engine in your car and the final exhaust of your car engine you can get a better grasp of my meaning. This engine would be quite easy to fit a silencing system and it would certainly not go above 85 dB if it was done efficiently. Regards Brian Oily

Brian Winch Thank you very much for your answer! Not all youtubers answer to your questions, I really appreciate your help! But I have another question if you don't mind. Wich muffler, silencer, can I use? Krumscheid or MTW mufflers for example? In our club "Royal Broken Wings", we don't really know this engine. And is the engine good quality compared to for example Valach or 3W? I know I ask much, but I like to ask my questions to a proffesional. I,d like to put this engine in a TMMY scale composites 35% cessna 182 skylane! Thank you very much for your help! Best regards, Sam from Belgium! 😉

HP we need HP ratings, that's the single biggest desire when considering a donk. Looks good but that sound isn't nice to the ears:-(
@BrianOilyEngines9 жыл бұрын
Yo Endy, How would you interpret it if I DID provide HP ratings. Maybe I could give you the PS rating or Watts but...how does it finally assist you with modelling? I do give ratings in my full reviews which are in several magazines but, again, the most important information to the majority of modellers worldwide is the range of propellers the engine will swing at at what RPM - this is what tells the real story..horses for courses! As for the noise being offensive, be aware, sir...I have duly canceled and expunged the records of your modelling existence in the annals of THE OILY HAND SOCIETY. Let that be a lesson to you...you rev-head. (Ho Ho) Brian Oily

Brian Winch HP is just a measure of apples to compare with other donks, it's irrelevant what it actually is provided it's more (or the same) of another engine a perspective buyer is considering:-) Years ago car manufacturers always boasted HP as that was a unit of measurement to beat or be better than the opposition, same goes with toy plane engines:-). Prop size is also irrelevant as who cares what size it can swing as long as it produces the HP they buyer wants:-) As for the noise? I'd expect better with four pots singing the song of expelled energy:-)

Yo Endy, We ain't testing 'apples' here, mate - just model i.c. engines. Look around you...do you think any model engine manufacturer (of commonly used engines) is going to produce an engine with a lesser HP than his competitor? Besides, as in the car industry of days past, there was a lot of questions needed asking as to how the stated HP was measured. Regarding propeller size, surely you can work out the power differential when you compare simple RPM with the same propeller used on different engines. How do you want the HP developed? Pure, simple 'grunt' power or screaming RPM as with a pylon engine. In days past we had a good 10 cc glow engine used for control-line speed (for example) and it was constantly in the winner's circle. It revved around 16 - 18,000 RPM but....on an 8 x 10 propeller and a toothpick prop at that. Put a 12 x 8 on it and it died in the rrr's. However, a common old 10 cc (o.s. - Enya, Webra etc.) would swing a 12 or more propeller and power a much larger model. Horses for courses or...red or green apples - your choice. As to the sound - on the bench it sounded like a racing Porsche burning rubber to me and the several modellers who dropped in the see it running. How it sounds finally is up to you ...if you get around to buying one. Brian Oily

sounds like a camed up VW type 1 :)

Yo Jim, Yep, I know just what you mean - a front wheels lifter VW engine. Standing behind it as I was it was a bit like a cammy Porsche engine in race trim...absolute music. I just shake my head when modellers carry on about electric motors in models...even they have to put in 'real' engine sounds with amplifiers. Why bother when the real thing is right in front of you. Hi Brian, Fantastic video thank you! Have you tested either the ROTO 70 V2 or ROTO 85 FS-NG? I am doing an undergraduate research project with them at the moment. This is the test rig I am using - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXrPoH55hpyYZqs

YoEdward, Sorry for the delay - I have been on a couple of country trips taking photos of events. I have tested the Rot 50 and 70 twins as well as several singles and all of the engines were very impressive as far as quality and performance. I have not tried the 85 but I have had reports that it is an excellent engine - the same as all the others in the range. If you have a spare one of those test rigs I have a place for it in my workshop (Ho Ho) Regards Brian Oily
