Nice! I always make my cleans through keymixes and rotos. I think i'm going to give the reveal tool a chance!

So, they don't like you using the clone tool, but using a transform and then reveal is the same as using the clone tool? I see below part of it was one guy wanting to have an explicit node tree. Which is all well and good, but it seems like they ahd another reason why they didn't want you to clone?

maybe I missed it... but why are you using bg, bg1 and bg2? Why the three? you keep the footage unchanged on bg, that's ok you work like that. I always bring back the footage unchanged by the bg1 that i reveal. but isn't it an hassle to always keep changing the input reveal on top of the screen?

Maybe I don’t know what I’m doing. But as a hybride roto artist I’m sure your way is better. 😉

I am a visual effects compositor who just graduated not long ago and this is the information that I really admire. Thank you for taking the time to explain and to create this awesome tutorial!

Thanks sir, but every good and perfect gift comes from above, not from me :)

By looking at the thumbnail, i see some stuff i can provide : - no need to use a shuffle and an invert node for the mask input, the grade's mask knob lets you choose the layer, and has an "invert" checkbox - same thing for the transform node, the roto node already has a transform tab with basically all the knobs you need

gulubidulu Very true sir, I just found I was corrected by 15 year veteran compers who wanted all premult, transforms, and inverts visible from the node graph as they opened my comp. to each his own :)

@@VFXforfilm Right, a lot of artist prefer very explicit node graphs ^^ IMO, i think it is clearer to have everything in the same node (especially for troubleshooting), but this is just my way of doing it

How much time you'd approximately spend cleaning up this shot? Always getting a bit anxious doing frame-by-frame cleanups because I have no idea how many hours artist typically would spend working on-site (being 100% remote artist has its own disadvantages, you know)

Vladislav Enshin depends on practice and quality output. A 400 frame shot can take a day or two on cleanup.
