I was a roto-master in Nuke for years. It got me a lot of work because I was very good at it. Thanks to outsourcing, I hardly do any roto work anymore.

Any tips for breaking into the industry as a compositor? I've started learning Nuke this month to become more competitive, in addition to extensive AE experience. Any other software I need to learn or would you recommend just trying to 'master' Nuke?

turn off outlines, but turn on the matte overlays, that's when that is helpful, so the spline isn't covering/obscuring your edge, especially useful in B-splines. Turning off points, good for when using the transform box. Gets rid of feather handles and the yellow dots, can help focus on just the spline line. Not saying I use it for that really at all, but can be good for that.

Ive tried using a similar workflow due to it calculating motionblur in the roto node shapes vs adding timeblur after HOWEVER I found - if your working on cloth for example - where its likely you will need to add points etc as you go - it doesn't create the point on the spline in the correct place relative to the frame your viewing. - if I have the expression connected to a folder onside the roto node. ima assuming due to the order of transformations Basically making it a bit redundant for anything other than solid shapes that arent rotating. Im wondering if youve run into this? Because until I can solve that im gonna have to continue to use matchmove. Or silhoutte lol Also ripple change doesnt seem to work on multiple points at once like in silhoutte either.

Nice lessons. Question: When using overlapping roto's, what merge do you use so the overlap areas don't become more saturated? I remember having this issue while taking a class and not being able to fix it.

Mocha pro is the way forward to roto ;p
@PDeNigris
@PDeNigris 2 жыл бұрын
This is a Nuke tutorial. There are plenty of Mocha Pro tutorials out there. And just because Mocha Pro exists doesn't mean Nuke artists don't need to know how to roto in Nuke. I have had plenty of shots where Mocha doesn't track properly or otherwise isn't useful and Nuke's Roto node is the more expeditious solution.

@@PDeNigris Am surpized Nuke dose things the hard way when doing things like Roto, Doesn't have anything like rotobrush or powermesh inbuilt then give the user the choice to use both Every program has presets, Even houdni then it gives you full control of everything
@PDeNigris
@PDeNigris 2 жыл бұрын
NukeX has SmartVectors and Planar Tracking. They can do a lot of what PowerMesh can do. As for AE's RotoBrush... that isn't ready for prime time, I don't care how much hype Adobe puts behind it. It does not have the precision needed for motion picture or TV work. It is a tool for amateurs, plain and simple. Nuke is a tool for professionals.
