5:57 - Hearing Lee Jung-jae speak, and looking up whether or not he speaks English (apparently he doesn't) - did he do the lines for the show in post-production perhaps phonetically? Or did someone else dub over his voice, just doing an "imitation" of his natural voice?
@Lucifronz5 ай бұрын
Dubbing/ADR isn't really that good. It's possible they did put someone else's voice over his, I think it's actually him performing the lines. He speaks slowly and deliberately, so I have a feeling he's learned English to a degree and is simply memorizing the lines in the most natural way he can. It's no doubt a heck of a challenge for him, but he does it quite well.
@liamnevilleviolist18095 ай бұрын
@@Lucifronz Yes, upon watching his performance again, I believe it's actually him speaking. If I had to speak German in a film project, I would try to learn a little bit, plus get a dialogue coach to help me with my lines. It's possible that someone off-camera is speaking the opposing actors' lines in Korean, maybe just prompts on which line is to be spoken next.... but I think Lee Jung-jae is great enough to know which lines come where and how to say them. As a back up, they might tweak his lines (pronunciation and delivery) in post. Just my educated guess.
@AngelaSealana4 ай бұрын
He mentioned in an interview on a Korean show that he learned enough English to accomplish the job, including the nuance that intonation brings in the language. For context, the U.S. military considers Korean one of the most difficult languages for an American to learn due to its complexity of varying relational terms and its grammatical structure. Because of our grammatical structure, however, how someone delivers a word or sentence can change the meaning of it. That's not really as much of a thing in Korean. So what he accomplished in working with language coaches to nail not only pronunciation but also proper emphasis in delivery while acting, is really praiseworthy.
@liamnevilleviolist18094 ай бұрын
@@AngelaSealana I study languages (European, with English being my first language) but I'm not an expert by any means. I believe that Asian languages and Arabic, and also African languages are probably the hardest to master, let alone, speak just well enough. Upon reading more and more about Lee Jung-Jae, I definitely [now] think he's speaking English in his Acolyte lines every time he's being filmed. Whether or not he's had to do ADR on them after filming is another thing. I like the way he speaks in The Acolyte. I agree with others who say this. It makes sense for someone in his role on the council.

First of all: Leslye Headland knows Star Wars quite well. The story group was involved, they have huge knowledge. Oh, and Dave Filoni was involved.
@bretbradford28265 ай бұрын
But do they know Star Wars that well? In Phantom Menace Yoda says a Sith hasn’t been seen for a thousand years. This is less than 100 years before that since it is 100 years before the rise of the Empire. In almost every interview about this show someone says Sith or calls Mae a Sith. So if Leslye Headland “knows Star Wars quite well” as you claim, how do you explain this glaring flaw? Was Yoda lying? Does Leslye know about this and chose to ignore it because she has no respect for the story? I think it’s more likely that Leslye Headland has no clue at all this scene happened in Phantom Menace. I have yet to hear her say anything that makes me think she knows a little about Star Wars. She could have at least used google to make sure she didn’t contradict anything George Lucas wrote. Do you happen to know how “involved” Filoni was in acolyte? I hope not much because the more he was “involved” the less I trust him. This show is awful. Shame on Leslye for claiming to know what she’s talking about, and shame on Filoni for being involved.

The Korean guy speaks and understands English right? But chooses to answer in his language for some reason and has an interpreter? He seems to answer like he understands but then speaks Korean.

It’s probably that he’s able to respond faster in Korean so for sake of time it’s probably quicker to have a translator

@@Aether_Apollo Maybe he can speak basic English but in Korean he can be more articulate. Makes sense.

His name is Lee jung jae, famous from squid game

He has an earpiece in here. If you watch his other interviews, he can understand a bit, but his translator has been mostly asking him the questions in Korean after the interview does in English.

I haven't really seen him speak much English outside of the show. I believe that either his English is very basic or he is very shy about it. Either way, it's his choice to have an interpreter. He is actually an excellent actor. Everyone appreciates the story of Squid Game but not many talk about his performance in that show.

"A threat like Mae" lol! Only by presenting the Jedi as complete pushovers, Mae is handed impact. "Would you mind taking that poison?" "Yeah, that's OK". "Thanks, bro, appreciate it!"

You probably know by now, but Mae isn't the villain. She's a red herring in a way.
