One of DC’s bigger strengths is their wealth of really obscure characters that you can do a lot of new things with. I really hope we see more shows like this; in particular Animal Man and Phantom Stranger are 2 I’d love to see get some animation love.

James Gunn is a great writer and director, but I really wish that he kept stuff under wraps so we could’ve been more surprised when we see Rick Flag Sr in Peacemaker and Superman. I know he has to explain to fans how the new timeline works & I’m still excited. So I guess it’s a nitpick. 😂

As controversial as James Gunns clearly preferential treatment of previous DCEU castings is I am delighted and glad that Viola Davis is still Amanda Waller. She is absolutely perfect and seems to be taking a central spot within the first chapter of this DCU reboot. I mean she’s in creature commandos, her own show Waller and fingers crossed Peacemaker season 2. My uneducated guess is that she’ll have some cameos where there’s tension between her and earths heroes especially Superman and Batman now that the suicide squad has been exposed due to her own daughter which I’m guessing is still canon which would explain why there’s gonna be multiple different suicide squad esque task forces popping up like creature commandos and maybe the authority will be backed by Amanda Waller too.

Maybe true but he also brought Blue Beetle into the fold & he wasn't involved with that. There's also the possibility some of TSS actors returning who were originally David Ayer castings. So I think it's more that he's porting over the actors & characters that could fit reasonably within the DCU. Now I'm not sure why he didn't back a lot of the Shazam cast considering one could argue that applies to them too.

The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Blue Beetle were the only critically well received projects of the DCEU and the few projects with no deep ties to the broken machine that was the DCEU (minus the one peacemaker JL scene that’s going to be retconned in season 2). The first Shazam was received well but its sequel was received abysmally by critics and audiences and its lead actor has gone off the deep end mentally as well as joined the club of problematic celebrities of the DCEU like Gal Gadot, Amber Heard & Ezra Miller. Not to mention the film took so many years to get off the ground that the kids have all grown up so it’s hard to continue a series like that without finding a work around for that factor.

​@@Megaproductions302 Yes, it's a few factors. I was mainly pointing out that it wasn't just the cast & continuity from the Gunn projects that were ported over. With Shazam, I wondered about it because it's a mostly contained series that makes references to a larger world with an established cast people seem to like. So why not bring over Shazam & that cast but just recasting Zachary Levi & having only what's addressed be canon like only the first film. But I get that the negative reception alongside the box office results were probably a one-two punch that eliminated it from the DCU.

@@jmandan8728 Could be, but the one thing about that is, at least for the most part, Doctor Phosphorus could be portrayed in CGI in live-action, since he's got a radioactive form he's in basically 100% of the time. Clayface is generally more likely to be seen in human form.

Eh, DC is kind of notorious for milking the big characters- Superman, Batman, Wonder-woman, etc... And, I think beginning this new era of DC in a polar opposite way is a good thing. In my opinion, it shows they're choosing passion over profit when taking risks on small characters like this, rather than going with the obvious money-makers again.
