Man this brings back memories when I first got my 8 week old rottie. He was UPSET at night and had the worst howling, barking, crying, etc. You just gotta let them cry it out and fall asleep they will eventually get used to things. I had many sleepless nights but as a result he now just sleeps in his crate no problems at night. He is now 8 months old and is an absolute angel. Tough love seems to work the best for him lol. Great video for helping out the new owners!

This gives me hope. I just realized this is my 8 week old rottie’s second night in her crate but for some reason it feels like a whole week. She cried so much the first night and today she cried for maybe 10-15 minutes and the second time she had to pee so I took her to the yard and brought her back inside. She yelped a bit and then fell asleep. My parents think I’m cruel but I think it’s more cruel to leave them outside all night for their whole adult life in a kennel because they aren’t potty trained.

My current Rottie is just a few days shy of being 9 weeks old. I think crate training is paramount for any dog and my Rotts have certainly been the type to find their crates as their happy and safe space. Any time we've brought a puppy home we always buy one of those stuffed animals that has the heart beat and has a pack you can heat up. Ideally get a blanket or towel from the breeder that has been thoroughly scented by the Dam. Just have the breeder giver her a really good wipe down with the blanket/towel. From day one my dogs are always fed in their crates and are always praised for going in their crates and being calm. Their crates are in a room we can make quite dark and peaceful. Three nights is the longest I've ever encountered and the new Rottie, (Female) took only one night. We've had her for 12 days now and she knows that the crate is her place of comfort. She now heads to the crate room ~10:00pm and settles in for the night, we make sure she's been outside to do her business and she'll give you a solid 7-8 hours of sleep time before she gets up. She goes outside on leash, goes to her toilet area, does her morning thing and then it's back inside where she goes to the crate and gets her breakfast. After 12 days she's about 90% on toilet training, I'll just be glad when the teething is over! ;D

my puppy accommodated completely with me and my family from day 2. Day one he cried a bit and that's it. Make sure you create a strong bond with him. Play with him, pet him, and give him some love. That's what I did with mine from the first second I got him. Spend some time with him, you or other member or your family. this is what i did with my puppy. Idk if yours will be the same, but it's worth to try On day 3 he was so happy, playing and running around the house, goofing around. The breeder could not believe how happy the puppy was with the new home on day 3

I got my rottie puppy last week ....1st day .it cried until 12 midnight I just gave foot and water ..next to where it was going to sleep(inside my garage since its a very cold weather currently) ..I ignored it till the morning . The next day I gave him food and water and left for work until 4pm The 2nd day it knew that it has to spend time with me at 8pm when I went to bed it went to his place inside the garage .....but it demand a lot of love ..and likes playing a lot ...I still need to train him toilet training, obedience training..hope will succeed...🤗

I got a 8 week old 2 days ago... 1st night i slept on the couch with it..... took my other dogs out on a walk without him keeping him in the kennel. Tonight i put a sheet over the kennel and it calmed him down by 50%, will see how tomorrow goes.

Question : for an 8 week old puppy, to train to use the potty outside, do I have to go out every hour or so throughout the night? Or what is a good approach ?

When you do the tough approach, does it not make them hate the crate. Maybe have negativity to the crate.

Hard approach in my opinion is cruel. Puppy is coming into a new environment torn away from litter mates and to lock them up in a room by themselves is distressing. I’d do a soft approach.

Suppose you want them to sleep in your room. They bark whine you leave them, but you have to take them out for a potty break? Put them back in the crate and let them whine and bark...I don't want to move them out of the room.

So we didn’t know we had to put our 8 week old pup in a kennel till recently, she may be sick with distemper but she is recovering pretty well and we were wondering if we could still use the soft method cuz she has some pretty bad abandonment issues she absolutely refuses to leave our side and she literally screams if she feels we’re leaving her in the kennel (we don’t leave her long just for naps or when she’s turning in for the night) we take her out for the bathroom and such before we put her in the kennel, she gets plenty of exercise before then but she does nap a lot so we put her in for naps as well. My brother has given in twice so I’m not sure if we should still use this method. What is recommended for pups with this issue?
