The rottweiler is a smart dog. It doesn't like being left alone. If you get a rottwieler you are getting a new shadow following you everywhere. If you can't be around the dog and spend a lot of time with it, then you're better off with a different breed.

Rottweiler is the loyalist and most fearless protective breed I know of. They will give their life without hesitation to defend their family. I was raised with nothing but Rottweilers my whole life as my parents were breeders. Straight from Germany. I have wanted a BOERBOEL for years. Im not in a situation yet to provide the right home. The best individual dog I have ever had in my life is my current PITBULL... He is PERFECT in my eyes. He just turned 17 years old and he can still run. I wont get another dog because my Pitbull deserves all my attention in his golden years. He's still my little puppy 17 years later. lol. But when the day comes for me to get another dog it will be a BOERBOEL... MAYBE 2

I've had pitbulls for twenty eight years , each time I think about trying to raise a different breed and do my research , I change my mind and stick with the pitbull , but I've rescued an adult female Rottweiler and had her for several months before finding a great home for her , she was an amazing dog , if she was typical of the breed , then she represented exceptionally well .

We have owned Rotty's in the past, and loved them. Great pets and family members. We currently have a 6 year old Cane Corso, and he has been amazing. What a guard dog and companion. Unparalleled I thought until we recently obtained a Boerboel. She is 8 months and absolutely amazing. Attentivie, smart, great guarding instincts. She is even tempered and very loving. I said there would be nothing to compare to the Cane Corso, but this Boerboel has changed my mind.

Both breeds are mighty , strong and look great! But, I'm biased toward comparing the two . I miss all three of my Rottweilers. Had all three at different times. My last, having to be put down in 2014. Of old age and heart failure. It about killed me. He helped me raise my daughter and he was serious protection or a protector. He weighed between 137 and 145 lbs. He was massive, calm, easy going and smart. His name was LITTLE BUDDY, or BUDDYBEAR. Very dominant and intimidating, until he knew you. Then, you'd ask yourself, "why was I so scared of him?" Such a great Rottweiler , dog, companion. Did I say SMART?! 😊

I had a Rottweiler mix with Chow Chow. She was the last one picked out of a litter of five. No one wanted to adopt her except our family. She arrived to our home with a pink bow around her neck. It was our Christmas present. It was the best gift we had ever received. She guarded my grandparents home 24/7. When she slept, it was with one eye open. I could not believe how much she loved guarding the place. She finally passed away after 15 years of hard labor. It was sad to hear of her passing. Love you, Pepper (AKA Ruffy).

Also the kangal is not proven the strongest dog, its just a simple conclusion people made according to size and bite strength, but in fact the boerboel reaches a higher muscle mass and weight ratio than the kangal, which is the major factor in deciding strength, even though the kangal is just bigger in length. both breeds are powerful and not one holds power over the other... personally from what I've experienced between the two breeds, the boerboel has more strength.. but depends on individual dogs from each breed.

i live in South Africa i have a boerboel her name is Kiara and she is the best dog ever, see she is over protective over me but most but in most cases boerboels don't like to share a yard with any animals but Kiara she shares a yard and house with 8 dogs and a cat so I personalty think that it is the way you raise them...and it is true her heart is as big as her bite..she sleeps in my bed gets bathed every second week...she plays with all the dogs...she is the friendliest to the cat all the other dogs bite and chases the cat but she does not...oh and she loves selfies and photos...i had a rottie when i was younger boerboel definitely wins!!!!!!!

Rottweilers like mine are love bugs who like snuggling but also test your leadership so you always have to be mindful about who is the boss.A sharp vocal reprimand is all it takes for Prince to cut out bad behavior.This is the best way to train Torrie's in my humble opinion.They also are very intelligent and extremely observant being guard dogs.They are also highly vocal when prompted to howl.A great breed if you are up for the challenge.

I have never owned Rotties. Only GSDs. If I'm right then both need assertive dominant behaviour. Or qrr their any differences in their handling? I am not exactly a barbarian but not a push me around either. Can be assertive where needed. Are there any differences in owning a GSD and Rot? I am very apprehensive abt Rots though having heard that they can be extremely difficult, unpredictable, and have berserker fits. Please enlighten me.

The owner of the boerboel said the wall between him and his neighbor has fallen down and on the other side 2 rottweilers where waiting the boerboel killed them both.

I had many Rottweiler. Had female with a long bump on her head, they call the knot of knowledge. Let me tell you she was the smartest dog I've ever seen. Never had to teach her cues she just knew. She knew everyone's name, if you came In my house and came back six months later and I said where's Dave with 10 people around she would look right at you. She was amazing. Sadly the Rotwieler is no longer the breed it used to be. After being poorly breed for so many years in America and people breeding for the wrong reason. The true working Rotty is a rarity. Most are either obese, have health problems, and temperamentally unstable.

The type of boerboels we have can be seen in the video " oh my boerboel" called mufasa here on youtube. Thats the size and temperament we're used to. The ones shown here look a lot smaller

I met a South Africa old guy on the Oil Rigs. It started of he disliked me because I was born in the UK but we had to work together. I learnt a lot about how South Africa has struggled etc. We come to a point where we had something in common, dogs. He owned Boerboal and Rotweillers for protecting, not as pets. He needed them or his kids would get rapped and house / farm taken. His Boerboal and Rottie had puppies. He told me that's the best of what you can have. I've not seen him for a long time but I got a Roman bob tail Rottie and WOW! You defo need to be an experienced dog owner to have one. Best thing that's ever happened to me is J-Lo my Rottie. She now 4 and I'm thinking Boerboal male. J-lo a pedigree so she been done. I rather myself own one than an idiot. Lovely looking dogs.

One thing rarely brought up in these comparisons is fur quality. North Americans in the show belt sometimes get other large breeds thinking they are white or brown "Rotties." But most of these other dogs originate in warm climates and have only a single hair layer. They can truly suffer in freeing temperatures. Rotties on the other hand have one layer of hair for wet and another for warmth. They are incredibly adaptable to cold....I've had mine out on long hikes at 40 below and he's been fine, even rolling in the snow to cool off following a sprint after a deer. Of course, the opposite is also true...Rotties don't do well in the heat.

Interestingly enough, I've got both. Boerboel imported from South Africa. Rottweiler born in Canada from German sire and Polish dame. Couldn't be more different breeds. I've been working with dogs for 26 years. That includes showing, breeding, training, judging and 4 years of the military K-9 unit. Both are first I've had (had a lot of dogs, with my main breed being Rhodesian ridgeback. Always wanted those two. That's all I'll ever have from now on.

My Rottie died Nov 18, he was electrocuted in front of my Husband. Awful business. We knew we wanted another big breed when the time was right. We got our boerboel today, he's 14 weeks old and a little sweetheart. He is already showing signs of protection, the postman and neighbour came close to him for a look and growled, wasn't a major growl but I definately heard a grumble till he got used to them and relaxed. He seems to be intelligent and reads your face for commands. I loved my rottie but he wasn't much of a guard dog, he was easily dominated by other dogs too.

My experience was the same. Our Boerboel was a very confident dog, so good with kids, other animals but no one would dare test his guard ability due to his size/power. Our Rott was much more proactive and made his mind up early if he didn't like the look or approach of an unknown person/dog he let them know. I also own a GSD and she is probably the best natural guard but not as big/strong as the other two.

Sebastian Rodriguez a rottweiler appears to be a better guard dog as they go for anything, a boerboel is much better at sensing what is and what is not a threat, therefore only reacts when it needs to, I've also had both breeds, the boeboel is incomparable as a watch dog compared to a rottweiler. A boeboel is also much heavier, Stronger, more agile and has a bite that cannot be compared by any other breed, so in terms of stopping power the boeboel is far superior too.

trev1976 that's the problem with rottweilers, they react out of turn, the boeboel knows when and with whom he should be reacting to. I live in South Africa and believe me if you want to put a watch dog to the test it's here.

Craig Sparks I agree. I really miss our Boerboel. I would love to own another some day, I would add in the Rottweilers defense that they do vary in temperament and there are less reactive types, not all are loose cannons but the breed has acquired a bad rep for a reason. GSD's are also much more energetic, vocal guards, definite barkers and teeth bearing growlers - which is a deterrent in itself, they do well with a good strong handler and love an active life around family. Overall though, in my experience, I'd place the Boerboel #1 all round (great family dog + appropriate guard), the complete package.

I have one he is about a year and a half but its a difficult breed to care for because they need a lot exercise and become bored really easy. But they make excellent guard dogs and they are very loyal and loving to their owners but if someone they didn't know try to enter their territory without the owner knowing or if someone would try to harm their owner that person will no longer exist. They are also extremely strong dogs

@@bretnye6228 No, he is very protective and doesn't like strangers. So you have to introduce new people carefully. Mine is also very dominant so if you're getting another dog make sure it isn't also gonna be a dominant dog. They are fearless and would protect you with everything in them, they are awesome family dogs and are great with children

I have crossed presas and Dane for 6 years and have finally came out with great looking dogs with highly desirable traits, drive, good disposition, minimum dog/ animal aggression. it's not always a bad thing to cross breed dogs. some people don't want to pay 3000 and up for a puppy/ dog, that will most likely die of cancer or terrible genetics. some people want a good looking big dog without these genetic issues

To each their own no breed is better accept to the owner if I like a chihuahua an African Mastiff would not be a would not my pic if you want a cat a dog will be no use to you . Dogs have different purposes for different people that's like saying which one of your kids is better you love them all

Can I get some advice? I currently have a 3 year old English Bulldog (female) and a 1 year old Rottweiler (male unaltered). Long story short, a Boerboel (male) was taken into my local shelter and my girlfriend became really attached. The vet doesn’t recommend me adopting the Boerboel due to the my rott and it being dominant dogs. Also my bulldog is fixed.

this could be a problem because both dogs are territorial and of the same sex. Let them meet and see how they interact before you bring home a boerboel

The weight for boerboels was a little light. The literature varies but generally Males are 150 to 200lbs and females are 110 to 150lbs.

Boerboels are a nice large breed of dogs, but maybe I'm a little biased bcuz I own a rottie. Pits were there only dogs I've raised before getting a rottie. I've grown to love rotties now too 😌

I have a boerboel mix rottweiler. He is about a year and a half very awesome dog. He is very protective but also very jealous. It's a hard breed to care for because he needs a lot of exercise and doesn't like other animals a lot. It's also very suspicious of strangers and doesn't trust people they don't know. But its one of the best dogs I've owned very loving and extremely loyal

Love the Rottweiler but they don't have a long average life expectancy and are known to have health problems. They IMO have the best overall capabilities of any dog breed but that fatel flaw is what drags them down. The Boerboel looks to me like a bigger Rottweiler only in most cases fawn. They seem pretty healthy but look very big to be athletic, I'd say a good defensive end rather then a linebacker. The Rottweiler is the latter. So if I were talking a really good NFL dog metaphor team, For defense, Rottweilers are linebackers, Dobermans are cornerbacks and Boerboels are the defensive line. The quarterbacks are German Shepherds, running backs are Pitbuls/Amstaffs, linemen are Kangals, wide recievers are Greyhounds, tight ends are Great Danes and kickers are Boxers. 😆✌🏾🇺🇸

As far as males go, I have seen few that were not more than the 150 lbs shown in the video. That would be on the lower end of the weight range rather than the upper.

My 2 males used in this video are average. The Brindle is 155 and the fawn is 165. I have seen them up to 210 lbs but there is no reason for it because you start to lose functionality.

Which evidence are you looking for? I'm an FCI certified judge. So, I know breeds and their standards pretty well. And even though Boerboel is in a process of the recognition, they are shown in a separate ring.

Rottweiler males should be 110-130ish...true Boerboel south african, from top of the line breeders like sbitsvuur males should weigh 160 to 200...most true male boerboels appraised in the 90% range+ are 170-190s pound range

Mine is a pure bred rotti, German, he has the huge hammer head, turned two years old, not fat, well muscled, lean, by the time he turns three he'l have about another 10 lbs on him. I don't want him fat which I've seen a lot of Rotti's get due to lack of exercise and possibly improper diet.

My Boerboel is the most fascinating personality of any dog breed I have owned before? Labradors, Springer Spaniels, Rottweilers, Shepards & Terriers all have been in my home. But the Boerboel is superior in my humble opinion simply due to it's incredible intelligence. Boerboels have and will die for their owners & families if threatened, have incredible hearing and 6th sense of danger or someone (or something) being too close to the house? We live in a rural suburb now, moved from the city and are currently dealing with the High Prey drive issues but my dog is very happy with living in farm country as opposed to the City.
