I'm born and raised in Colorado and have yet to ride my state's premiere bikepacking trail...until now! The Colorado Trail is 540 miles (867km), has 72k feet (22k meters) of vertical gain, and travels from Denver to Durango. In this video, I leave the cozy dugout in Buena Vista and head into the most difficult section of the CT. 200 miles without any resupply. Oh and the torrential rain didn't make it any easier.

This brings back memories. I hiked the Collegiate Peaks in the late 90's on a four-day trip and we visited Buena Vista. Watching 25 years later from Eastern Canada. I recognize the wild flowers and the rain. I like those interviews you do on the trail! It certainly helps to better convey the experience of hiking that trail. Your Priority bike seems perfect for the ride!

@@duzer Yup, Leadville, old mining towns, carriage roads, Pikes Peak, Harvard, Princeton, snow capped peaks in mid summer... its all coming back. But the best part of this video is when you ask Emily and Lauren how much the hotel room cost, and in unison, they say, "Uhhh, too much!" (5:53). Not staged. They are terrific! Not worried about anything, just going for it.

My initial thought on the dogs was coyotes, but then they sounded diverse enough that I started thinking maybe hound hunters with a mountain lion or bear treed. If you ever come across those guys, pay attention. The amount of knowledge of the wilderness they have is astounding. And they run dogs, so you know they're good folk. 👍 Who knows for sure about the dogs, but cool experience all the same!

@@vanomadcyclist3474 Karens always wear black to look thin and never are a good example, Powderpuff. Easily upset and angry that others don't see how pretty their lives are. Kids deserve adults who aren't freaks, friend. Right now, ethics is in short supply among our female bikers. In NZ an Olympic cyclist killed herself, because of the slimy cycling community in NZ. Hey Ryan! Just watching the first few mins and you mentioned rationing batteries- have you considered buying a solar charging battery pack? They're a bit heavier and bigger than normal ones but if you leave fasten it onto your bike facing the sun all day it will charge a decent amount (not enough to keep you going forever in the wilderness if you're charging multiple things regularly but if really does extend the duration). They're really not very expensive (about $30) but have been a life saver for me when travelling for long periods.

Ryan, when you mentioned how calm and quiet it was, I thought to myself, oh there's a storm coming. Nature was quiet for a reason.

Another terrific video. I'll keep my eyes peeled for Amy's organic refried beans but doubt I can get them in Canada.

German Cyclists sometimes say: „Wer sein Rad liebt, der schiebt.“ You can translate the rhyme with: „If you love your bike, bike-hike!“ Had to think a lot about that saying…

Great video, thanks!. I'm watching the entire Colorado Trail series. I moved to CO two years ago and I want to get out there! What was the song near the end? Sound Hound couldn't identify it.
