❤ My rough collie likes to sleep with all 4 paws in the air. When it is time to eat. She likes to lay down and get comfortable. When you eat one piece of kibble at a time. It can take awhile. She is a great dog. I should have bought 2 of them.

I grew up with a tri colored rough coat in the 80's and 90's that was pretty much my brothers and my 2nd mom. She'd walk us to school when we went to elementary school 2 blocks away and would always make sure we were in sight when outside playing. She had morning rounds of our tiny neighborhood where she'd jog with the joggers, she'd check on neighbors, she'd herd the cattle in the pasture behind our house (the guy that owned the cattle didn't mind because he knew all she was doing was herding them and not hurting them). When she was 11 y/o she was attacked by a pack of wild dogs or coyotes that tore her tail off and tried to disembowel her, but she somehow made it home. We took her to a fantastic vet that saved her and during her healing the whole neighborhood came to visit her and bring her treats and love. When she passed at age 14 the neighbors reacted as if a beloved person had passed away, and brought us cards, flowers, little gifts for her grave where we buried her. It was because of her I became involved in veterinary medicine, and have have always had a deep love of rough coat collies. Since her, I have been mommy to 2 sables and a blue merle headed white, and wouldn't trade any of them for the world.

I was born blind and over time have had many surgeries to fix my vision. When I was about a year old we got a Sable rough collie puppy. His paper name was Jock McTavish of Agape farms. But to me he was just My best friend Jock. He was my unofficial service dog.while any time we were out in public he had his collar and leash on I just walked around with my hand on his back. He never would have run off and we had lots of adventures together. We lived in MN in the early years, and so as I was spending my time swimming and playing in the lakes Jock was always there by my side. If he thought I had gotten too far out in the water he would push me back toward shore. My parents never really worried about me as long as he was with me. When I was about 6 we moved to OR and the lakes became the Pacific ocean! He loved going to the beach and climbing all over the sand dunes and playing on the shore with the waves lapping at our feet. He wasn't a huge fan of the bigger waves though so if I went out beyond about ankle deep he would push me back. However I have no doubt that if I had started going out to catch those waves and surf he still would have stuck beside me. Everyone loved him and he in turn loved all the attention especially from children ( who all would come running yelling Lassie! Lassie! He stayed happily by my side for 13 years. We experienced all my best moments to that point together and he helped me through the worst too. The 4th of July was the only time he wasn't happy to be with us. As we got older and he knew I would be OK if left alone when things started to get loud he would head for under the house where it was cool and quieter. If voices raised it upset him. If we were hugging he wanted in on it too and would squeeze in between us. We were a very musical family. Both my parents sang professionally and there were often rehearsals for dad's quartet, mom teaching voice lessons, my siblings and I practicing singing or an instrument. Jock would sing along sometimes. I think those were the times he liked it the best. He even screened my husband and decided that he was an OK guy. ( we met in elementary school, and rediscovered each other in middle school.) It's been a very long time now that Jock has been gone. I have had many other dogs since him and raised my own family . My own kids tried dressing a couple of those dogs like I used to dress Jock and while they all patiently allowed it I have never seen another dog that has wagged their tail like Jock did while being dressed for a tea party! ( I used to put him hin my long dresses until he tripped and fell down the stairs...) A collie's tail can tell you so much about what they are thinking... My mom always had lots of pretty things in our home. Each Saturday was cleaning day. I discovered when I was about 8 that if I took all the little glass items off the coffee table and set them underneath that Jock would help with the dusting too! I just had to tell him how much I loved him and he was a good buy and say "dust Jock" and he would turn around and sweep his tail across the coffee table doing a great job dusting it. As this piece talks about these collies shed a LOT ( I have had, 3 pitbulls, a boxer, 5 German Shepherds, an Irish setter, 2 Lhasa apsos, 3 border collies, 3 labs, a cacapoo and 2 Australian shepherds and NONE of them have shed like Jock did ( although I am pretty sure a yellow lab sheds more than any other when it blows coat) I even made a pillow for my brother for his birthday one year out of an old bedspread and stuffed it with dog hair I got from brushing Jock. I'm not sure which was worse in his teenaged mind the pink pillow with ruffles or that it was full of dirty dog hair! Although he did acknowledge it was better than the apple core I gave my sister for her birthday when I was 6! (Hey! I was eating an apple whwn I found out it was her birthday. It was her 13th and I tried really hard to make her something before just giving up and giving her the core of my apple.) Jock was an amazing dog and his patience, protection, companionship, and most importantly love was the best gift ever! He went for his last walk July 5th 1985 and I still miss him. As I type this my precious Lyla (GSD/Pit) has been snuggled up next to me. And she's gently licking my tears away. I as I said earlier have had a LOT of dogs in my lifetime. I have thought many times about getting another collie ( my daughter has a wonderful border collie who was her certified service dog for many years ( she was certified at age 2 and is retired now) When I think of a collie I think of a dog that looks like my big beautiful boy. I haven't gotten another one because there was only one Jock. But I'm sure that if I did get one while being different it would still be amazing. They are great dogs! I loved him so much and have loved the opportunity to remember our time together.

Rough Collies are my favorite dog breed. I have had two rough collies in my life and I would love to have a houseful of Rough Collies. My first RC was sable and white and my last Collie was a tri colored I got through a Collie Rescue Group. She was 7 when I got her and the BEST dog I have ever had. I have had MANY other breeds but the Rough Collie is my favorite. They are SWEET, GENTLE AND GOOD NATURED WHO JUST GIVE LOTS OF LOVE. THIS IS A VERY GOOD VIDEO.

One of my earliest memories is of my Grandma's dog Laddie clacking to my crib and sticking his paw thru the slats. His breath was so bad. But that smell meant everything was good.

Or family dog is the collie. we've had 6. We had a collie (Daisy) that was really an odd ball, she lived 14 years. I guess she would be considered a "bi-black". She was jet-black with the typical white markings, but the white was like a hyper-white, I mean REALLY white (almost a blue tint to it). When you looked under her fur, you could see that spots of a blue merle (which her father was). One ice blue and one dark brown eye. When she looked at you, with all that black fur, all you saw was that one ice blue eye staring at you. She was a horse! She weighed 76 lbs and I think it was 27" at the shoulder. I am 6' 2", she could put her paws on my shoulder and just barely lay her head on my neck. We called her the "lean mean puppy" machine LOL She was insanely smart. When there was no one to play with her, she would place "catch" with herself, she would toss her frisbee in the air and run to pick it up. But, she wouldn't just throw it in the air, she would swing her head side-to-side to throw it, just like how she observed us throwing it for her. She was one special pup.

I'm on to my 3rd & 4th Collies (1 rough, 1 smooth) and I have to say they are brilliant communicators. They love routine and learn many associated words, my wife and I have to spell out our intension frequently to stop the excitement. Collies, just love 'em.

I have a sable and white rough collie. He’s insanely smart, and loves doing household chores aka games like picking up items. He likes to hold my hand in his mouth around the house while I work. Grooming daily is a must, and socializing them. They love fetching and are very nurturing dogs. They can be very sassy though.

My collie mix looked like a rough collie with a bit shorter muzzle, stubby legs, and a mostly black and white coat. His roughness was all collie though.

Yeah, their little cousins the sheltie's are a much smarter dog. I kind of like the idea of an oversized sheltie rather than the rough collie.
