Really like the Big Daddy Barlow! For some reason, I prefer the single bladed Barlows. Thanks for sharing Tobias!!

They do have a simplicity, heft, and usefulness. And one blade is often all you need.

I really like this one Tobias. Big smooth white/natural bone fan here. Big Grandaddy Barlow fan here. Call them up & let's get it rolling! Fire up the Forges! Fill up the Quench tanks!😂🤣😂

Ya I'd buy that Tobias. I like smooth white bone just because it's simple. Simple is good most of the time actually. I agree Rough Rider, bring it back! Thanks again Tobias for a good video.

Thanks for the video. I really enjoy learning about these knives, there were a few other channels I use to follow but they went to some kind of pay per view. Thanks again.

Beautiful White Smooth bone!! Thanks for showing it partner! I have seen some nice scrimshaw work on Rough Rider knives being sold on Ebay.

I have a yellow plastic Big Daddy Barlow I like it, but would greatly prefer a white smooth bone version. Although I wouldn't mind a plain bolster either I definitely prefer the horseshoe to the R bolster.

Good looking knife. You made some excellent ideas for them on the Granddaddy barlow in white smooth bone. Wonder if any will happen.

If that knife was available today I would be ordering one right now. Possibly a couple. I’m a big fan of the white smooth bone. Agree with you, no shield.

I got the white smooth bone granddaddy Barlow maybe 3 years ago. It really is a super knife. Mine is as well put together as any Case I own. I like the Rams Horn line but have yet to pick up the big Barlow. You really have been putting out great content. Thanks for all your hard work and time.

Nice to see the clean lines and no etching on the blade. I would buy a couple and try to dye one like you described. Thanks for the post.

I know a few people who like to "antique" the bone by lightly sanding it and then soaking it strong hot tea. I've come to the conclusion that lightly sanding the bone really isn't that necessary. I've done it in the past. I'll need to grab one and do it for the channel.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias I saw on Ebay, 12 blank bone slabs being sold for knife handle blanks. Reasonably cheap. Great to try out staining techniques before using a favorite knife.

John Dinkelo , a while back I bought a couple dozen bone slabs being sold bone guitar frets. ( about 3.5x .75x.125 inches.) also perfect for knife handles.

I have this knife and it really is a solid, robust folder. I carry it often instead of the case or other usa barlows I have. It just seems more dependable and can hold a really nice edge. Great video.

It's definitely a solid knife and it looks good. And that blade comes in real handy for day to day chores. Having a four inch blade instead of two or three makes all the difference when slicing stuff.

I know this video is a few years old, but as someone who enjoys collecting white smooth bone rough Ryders, this one is hard to find. Even the eBay sellers who have a bunch of older discontinued RR series, don’t ever seem to have this one. This is one of the ones I’m willing to pay more for, cuz I love the pattern and handle material.

I like bone , but really love the rougher buckshot bone or 2nd cut bone. Since you spoke a moment about scrimshaw I have an old well used Schrade in my collection an SC705. The odd part is that these were issued already engraved with Bears, Fish, Beavers, and such but mine is plain. Its a nice yellowish whiite with light brown, but I can find no history of Schrade selling plain ones.

i bought the smaller or regular sized barlow in white smooth bone, then i found a case xx barlow white smooth bone with a cross shield, i figured i would size them up and speak about the better of the 2, my findings are for the rough ryder. the case xx came with a really dull main blade and cracks going to the pins up by the bolsters on both sides. the rough ryder came sharp enough to bite me out of the box no wiggle in either blade and just an overall niceness to it that the case may have had if it was made in the 1970s but that company has lost a step somewhere along the way

I’d buy that! I’ve got the rams horn, but I’d love the smooth bone too. Mind you, I might have to get you to source it for me as they don’t seem to make it to the UK and I’ve told Heinnie Haynes where they can stick their knives!

brace having spent around £10k with them, and referee at least as much, they kept dancing around supporting the channel. So, eventually, I made a straight request for a £30 knife for review and got a straight “no”. So they can no longer expect my money or my support.

I have a real affection for the Barlow pattern. Probably because I didn’t appreciate the one I had as a dumb kid. I have a few in my carry rotation now, including one I picked up at an Amish general store for the princely cost of $4.50. I nearly fainted when they told me it was the actual price.

Like the white bone 🦴 ones. What year was the Halloween one from? Been looking for one. 👍
@KnifeChatswithTobias4 жыл бұрын
Last year. They were very limited in the release. I didn't mean to end up with three. The first one I bought from SMKW but it lacked the blade etch. They said they send me out a new one. After about a week, they said they were out of stock. I found one on eBay and purchased it, A day later, SMKW contacted me, apologized and said they were all out but if I wanted the proto-type they could send that to me. So while I have three, they are all different. If I had two that were the same, I'd probably run a GAW.

They should do away with the big R on the bolster, that also looks like R/T. They came out with a big Barlow in the Black & Blue series, but it has that big R on one side. I like the guy on the horse tang stamp, or the script of Rough Ryder stamp.
@KnifeChatswithTobias4 жыл бұрын
SMKW has said the Big R isn't going anywhere anytime soon (translation: They've got a ton of them in stock!) It is one of the most common complaints on the the knives, and not just from me.

What a beauty Tobias, you can't beat white smooth bone for a good cover. I've mentioned the sister knife of this, the RR1036 in smooth amber bone, which I bought when I couldn't find the white bone one. It's a beauty too and is also the knife that made me realize that Rough Rider can make a decent looking and functioning knife. Mine is near perfect (lucky me).Thanks Tobias. Here is the only reference I could find on the RR1036: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYeUn4tqoNt1qMU

I think I might have passed on that knife simply because of the bomb-shield! I might be regretting that now. On the bright side, if the WSB knife comes back around, making an amber bone knife without the shield should be one of the easiest ones to do.
