Tobias, I have not been enamored with the RRR knives but that is a beautiful knife. Thanks for showing it to us! I really like that Navaja (however it is spelled) and the Lagouille. Just beautiful lines.
@KnifeChatswithTobias Жыл бұрын
I have seen many a head shakers in Reserve line as well. I agree about the Laguiole and Navaja. They’re just an elegant yet functional design.
@jeroenvoss6231 Жыл бұрын
It's a well executed modern powderhorn. I could enjoy a backlock or midlock on future versions as well as a dark wood scale. I did expect a more solid spring action because of the knob at the end, but i have no problems being as is. Thank you for showing and sharing Tobias.
@KnifeChatswithTobias Жыл бұрын
I think a locking version would sell pretty well. I would much prefer a back lock or the lever used on the classic Spanish Navaja over a liner lock. I think the the things that are most likely to disappoint people is the light spring tension and the blade movement when closed. But both of these are common in the land of large toothpicks.
@jeroenvoss6231 Жыл бұрын
@@KnifeChatswithTobias If they put out a locking version, the case of light spring tension would be taken out. Through the long thin blade blade movement happens a lot, people who have toothpicks specially the larger ones won't be concerned.

Glad you like it. I know toothpicks aren't for everyone but this one has good action and a wide enough blade to make it more useful than some of the skinnier toothpicks out there!

Thanks Tobias. That is a beautiful looking knife, colour of micarta is really rich. I’ve got a slip joint made in France by family owned business Chambriard. Knife is called Le Thiers. Also beautifully made, and yes same thing, movement in blade when closed but rock solid when open.

I usually only buy small pocket knives I like for everyday carry. Especially single bladed ones. But I sent for this one last night. It just looks so good I couldn’t resist. This will be my second RRR. The other being the Barlow. Can’t wait either.

There are things that I like and things that I do not with this knife, but for the first time with RRR the former comfortably outweigh the latter. No sign of it in the UK yet, and it wouldn't surprise me if the stockists passed on it because large toothpicks are as rare as hen's teeth over here, unlike big Laguioles, oddly enough. Thanks for the review, Tobias, top notch as ever.

The "pull" you are referring to at around 9:10 is called "The walk and talk" in the slip joint circles.
@KnifeChatswithTobias Жыл бұрын
I am aware of the term walk and talk and have used it on several occasions. Thank you.

I figured you were familiar with the phrase, especially reviewing slip joints. It was directed towards people new to knives who may have heard that phrase before, but might not be sure what its referring to. It kind of caught me off guard not going to lie. In a way I was clarifying it for myself as well 🙃

I think that one is a home run. Looking forward to a few of the new RRR patterns. I would love some kind of bone handle scale, jig red bone being my favorite but red or burgundy micarta is not bad at all.

This knife is on my list for sure . great video ! But in regards to Laguiole knives from France and almost all other French knives they do in fact rest the tip on the spring . There reasoning for this is as you use and sharpen over time you will never develop a proud tip . they even have an expression that roughly translates to " Close gently so you don't damage the tip " When you closed yours I winced when it slammed home . thanks Tobias !
@pwh5805 Жыл бұрын
I’d love to know what that expression is in French.

Great looking knife there. The Laguiole looks pretty decent too! Not much different from a legit entry level one from en Aubrac or elsewhere. I’m sure SMKW will forgive you losing your patience after all the cashito you’ve funnelled in their direction over the years 😅

you know the word navaja means razor, its not the style or anything, i guess over time it may have become the name of the style but it means razor, i had an argument with someone over it because i posted a couple of swing guards with the same shape even had the ball pommel and the other person got all bent out of shape with their limited knowledge when i said they were made in japan but still navaja knives no they're not and all the rest of the naughty words, so i googled the word and took my screen shot and posted it just so i could say i told you so. never heard an answer or anything from him, i guess i got blocked oh well
@KnifeChatswithTobias Жыл бұрын
Yep. Navaja is actually a very generic term in Spain. The Joker knife I showed is sold as a traditional Sevilliana. In the US is it used basically for anything that looks remotely like a traditional Spanish "Dock Knife." And Spain has/had several patterns that fit that category.
