I take look at the Rough Ryder Tiger Stripe Scout Knife. Is it worth buying. Watch the video and you decide!

Despite the crappy cap lifters, I still really like the looks of these scout knives. Thanks for showing off the Tiger Stripe, buddy. Those covers are really cool!

Nice looking Knife. I like the Tiger strip Pattern. But I already have a Navy Issue Camillus utility so I bought the Tiger stripe Stockman. Love the Stockman.

My tiger stripe came today and there is no fault on the can opener, it fits solid. No gap in the back springs

I wish they would drop the big R and replace it with the classey double R thats on the blade.

Kitty roars like a tiger... 10 out of 10 ! Love that intro :-) I like how you introduced the Marbles scout, well thought out indeed. This is the first time I have heard of a tool/blade going inbetween the springs, yikes, another flaw to add to the list of possible flaws in traditional knives.

Kitty got a customized Tiger Stripe scout knife! You should think RR would've noticed such a design/build flaw. Oh well just put a big R on the bolster and maybe people don't notice the flaw. I like the improved version you've made. Thank you for the review Tobias.

I have to file the ends of all Marbles and RR screwdrivers - they come way too thin. I think the covers are cool, but not very tigerish. How about leaving some white at the bolsters, brighten the orange, and carve the stripes INTO the bone so they contain the black dye, like the Marbles black/white bone stag? I’d like it better. So they fixed the caplifter, yey! Next, the can opener. Lol. I’d like a slimmer knife, one with just the main blade and the punch, and the bail. Scout light. Day camper.

You would expect orange one with black stripes!

The Marble’s Orange G-10 Series Scout Knife is also built on the same frame with the same blades. The G-10 scales and underliner make the Marble's $8 cheaper. I know you hate orange, but it is a scout knife. Thanks for the review.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
Actually I like Orange but I’m still trying to get used to the black and Orange. $8 cheaper is good.

The Tiger; pound for pound the smartest, most devious, strongest, most feared and most fearsome predator on earth. Nothing can stop it on equal terms. And that is not just my opinion, ask Kitty. Does the featured Scout knife have the same reputation? Stay tuned for the Knife Chats take on both knives. Thanks Tobias.

4.25" closed means that this knife is huge compared to the official scout knives that Ulster used to make. The Rough Ryder is about 15% larger.

My Tiger Stripe has a weak spring on the main blade. It's not so easy to deal with SMKW on returns with their new policy.
@bdh39492 жыл бұрын
I know, I've grown accustomed to using the yellow return form as a blade sharpness test sheet. All blades on all new knives have a go at it and usually I end up completely shredding the return form before I am through. I'm screwed. lol

I like the handles of the Tiger Stripe Series, and that's a nice looking knife. So is it safe to say the boycott of the "R" bolster is over? Thanks to Kitty.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
Scout knives and large toothpicks are currently exempt. The Cub Lockback is exempt if the knife lacks a shield. But otherwise I pass on the R. It’s had its moment. That moment has passed.
@yngvarofvanaheim60642 жыл бұрын
I bought one of these and it will be my last rough ryder. The knife is perfect except the blade has significant forward rock. Probably an eighth inch rock. I also have the scout king which is perfect. In my experience I have never had any issue with marbles whereas this is the second I've received from rough ryder with a significant flaw. That's not mentioning the cap lifter fiasco.

It’s a shame your experience has been so bad. They really need to do something with there recent quality control.

I found out that the USA has more Tigers than any other country in the world. Not wild tigers. We have over 10 thousand.
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
Its a shame. But i do think many zoos are working on "return to wild programs."
@WilliamsKnifeLife2 жыл бұрын
@@KnifeChatswithTobias it's not just zoo's. In many places all you need is to pay a $50.00 permit from USDA. It is estimated that there are around 5,000 captive tigers in the US, more than the approximately 3,900 remaining in the wild. A vast majority of these captive tigers are privately owned and living in people's backyards, roadside attractions, and private breeding facilities.Mar 31, 2020

@@WilliamsKnifeLife , hate to give this a thumbs up because the idea of private ownership of a Tiger disgusts me. However I support any kind of “return to the wild breeding program.”

It seems Rough Rider needs more attention to knife construction and less on box graphics. I expected covers that the colors looked more tiger like than these do. The jimping looks good but, the dark colors don’t. A tangerine orange and black jimping would make the knife worthy of its name. ✨🙄
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
I agree. It really should've been black and orange. Had it not been a scout knife, I would've skipped it. And seriously, are we buying boxes or knives?!? Enough with the over sized magnetic collector boxes EVERY knife maker in the world, especially Rough Ryder!
@skcamerican2 жыл бұрын
@@KnifeChatswithTobias Right on! The big fancy boxes are just a nuisance to store. I prefer the small ordinary ones.

Do you by chance know the history of the Ideal campers ? I’m trying to figure out how old mine is . I’m assuming it’s a factory second or it slipped through QC the shield is blank . Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I will see what I can find. I know Ideal is basically out of Providence RI but not much more. It is so hard to get info on the budget knives.
@gladeshunter87962 жыл бұрын
@@KnifeChatswithTobias thank you . I couldn’t find much either . I think it’s 60’s era judging from the type of construction .
@KnifeChatswithTobias2 жыл бұрын
@@gladeshunter8796 , everything seems to say the same. I think all are quoting the same source. Sometimes that’s the most you will find. I would not be surprised if it is a Providence Cutlery name brand or at least made in the same factory. Levine's 4th ed says Ideal Knife Co trademark IDEAL/U.S.A. was located in Providence, RI operated from 1926-c. 1986 . And Goins' says in addition to what is listed above that Dominick & Michael Marseli, with Phillip Magioni founded the company. They went to shell-handle construction in the late 1930's.

Does the cap lifter work any better than the marbles Chinese made demo knife? Bc that one is awful

It’s bigger so a bottle cap fits. But it is nowhere as good as the opener on a Swiss Army Knife or an old Camillus demo knife.
