Looks like a neat piece. Really reminds me of the survival knifes from the 1980's. Thanks for sharing and have a great blessed day.

It’s a good choice for a bedside knife. You'll be happy to have it. I saw your review of it at SMKW. I need to give my 2¢ worth.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias that would be $2 worth if you factor in inflation lol

The Rambo movies definately effected the knife world in amazing ways.

Funny thing is, Stallone is a genuine Knife nut. Probably why you see so many knives in his movies.

I remember in the early eighties I was able to talk my mom into letting me buy a "Rambo" knife when I was in junior high. When I got home my dad just shook his head. I cut up a whole bunch of branches and ended up trading it for a fishing reel with another kid. As an adult I just bought a fixed blade Buck knife for deer hunting.
@KnifeChatswithTobiasКүн бұрын
Your dad was jealous that your mom didn't let him buy one! LOL. No doubt the Buck is better knife. That said, I know a person who's father used one of those hollow handled survival knives as his deer hunting knife. After her father had passed away she showed it to me. It was very much a very special knife to her because it was her "Dad's hunting knife. And he had used it for years! Apparently nobody ever told her dad it was a bad knife. It changed my entire perspective knives and knife collecting. True story.

I just ordered this one with the hollow handle the other day. I actually like this style. I really hope its D2. I have a similar knife made by Rothco - it has a metal handle like the buckmaster 184. The tang on the rothco is similar to the RR but is buried in epoxy. One issue ive had with Rothcos was the blade being croocked off the handle. I think I returned 2 of them then finally went directly to Rothco for a replacement and they sent me a really nice one. Im curious to see if the RR one has its blade aligned properly with the handle Thank you for this review!

Like a buckmaster 184 with out the holes in the blade
@KnifeChatswithTobiasКүн бұрын
Very Similar in profile. I'm assuming you mean that the Buckmaster doesn't have the two holes in the blade. One key difference here is the Buckmaster has a guard that is bent forward which allows the insertion of the two spikes used in grappling. This knife has a straight guard with lashing holes. Thanks for the info

Cold steel bushman knives have a wrapped full tang, full round hollow. (Although not watertight from factory as built), but plenty strong with good storage space with some creativity. If that’s what somebody wants also the handle will accommodate a stick to make a spear. * the q tips have iodine, or other antiseptic in the stems. Crack them ( like a glo light stick) to wet the cotton ends

Thanks for the info on the Cold Steel. I’m also very grateful for the q-tip info. That’s a pretty cool idea.

You could fill the handle with epoxy resin or something similar and maybe that would help in the strength department. 🤷🏻♂️

I was thinking of packing some deep down around the tang. We'll see. Thanks for watching!

The finish on that RR Spade series fixed blade is amazing as well as the sheath for the price

I think this knife represents a movie knife that is not functional left in factory condition. However, with a few alterations would make it a working one. The knife you chose to use as a survival knife is a personal choice not what someone else thinks is one. Full tang knives are not the cure all for making a stronger knife some are no stronger and break with less abuse than other designs. If the blade steel is hardened to 56 HRC or higher, it will work fine. The saw teeth properly filed to cut and sharpening the blade cutting edges fixes that easily. When anyone buys a pocketknife and the blade needs sharpening does not make it junk just dull. The Rambo character’s knife didn’t make him a Badass, he was already one regardless of the knife he used. 🤔

I know what you mean about being a sucker for these types of knives. I was hoping that at least there would be threads in the holes in the guard that would match those little threaded pointed grapplers that came with other like knives. Thanks for showing us Tobias.

It's just a cheap copy of my buckmaster 184 and the sheath system is better than the R.R
@KnifeChatswithTobiasКүн бұрын
Less expensive for sure. And it probably has all the same flaws. THe question would be is D2 and better steel than 425M. The other question is which one is readily available for purchase.
