Thank you for redoing the comparison. I found it really unfair to compare the browser with flash vs. the others without flash. Everyone will have Flash completely "on demand", it's completely stupid (seriously, also on notebooks and even desktops) to turn flash on at all times. THAT's the REAL comparison.

To me, Android 2.2 looks the most ideal. I don't think anybody in their right mind would run Flash all the time (or expected to)... it makes perfect sense to have flash apps only run when activated individually (in fact many people run their desktop browsers this way!).

This is a sign of things to come. Yes the iPhone (currently) has more apps and nice hardware and interface. But with Android making leaps and bounds daily, coupled with their increasing application count, open platform, multiple carriers, cutting edge hardware, multiple handsets and overall choice, the smart money is on ANDROID.

That is exactly how I use the Froyo browser. I have Flash set to On Demand. I get the speed of the browser and if I want to see a video all I have to do is click on the green arrow and it plays. I love that I don't need all these apps of websites just so I can see video. I can just view it in the web browser as it was intended.

Very good comparison cant wait to get Froyo on my Droid. Shows Android in on the ball and is ahead of its competition. And when someone says with flash it is slower well at least android gives you the option to turn it off unlike other phones (which none have it anyway). Fastest mobile web browser!

@nimitzopsoi It was not Opera Mini, it was Opera Mobile and Opera Mobile does render the page on the phone. But in one point you're right: the internals. iPhone is almost one year old hardware. Therefore its not fair to compare it to a Nexus One with Snapdragon CPU.

Great video! But considering the fact that the Nexus is packing a 1GHZ processor it should come as no surprise that it beats the iPhone. To be honest, the fact that it lost to the iPhone on some instances is pretty sad. Especially when you take into account the fact the iPhone has a 600MHZ processor.

@Jinto117 I think in animation to get smooth animations you need higher frame rate, but his also cause higher strain on processor, performance, battery. Less frame rate is less smooth but also less work your device has to do to animate the screen. I think thats why the nexus one can scroll so much of the screen vs iphone with the same flick.

@AppleManifesto Apple didn't "invent" webkit. Software isn't "invented" - it is "developed". Webkit is based on the opensource KHTML, which was part of the KDE desktop environment for Linux. Apple used this as the basis for their Safari browser, and Webkit was born. At this moment, both companies use it for both their mobile and desktop browsers (Chrome/Safari/Mobile Safari/Android browser) - and Google also contributed massive amounts of code to the project ever since they launched Chrome.

@barecomb So to use iPhone, you need Mac computer to connect iphone to computer and to use bluetooth, you need 2 iphones to connect with bluetooth. Unwise like android you can connect it with anything, but not with iPhone, ofc.

@lantinian In Greece the price of iphone 3GS is still higher than both other phones. Also iPhone 3GS 16GB is around 600 euros while the new HTC desire which is almost same than the nexus goes for 500. Finally you forgot to mention that the iPhone OS is 3 years in the market (so it's more advanced than the Android which is only 18 months old). Do you remember what iPhone OS was like 1.5 year ago. Barely had greek support...

@AngelChildxxx Again. You are commenting on this video, not on the other video. Flash is set on demand, as it is supposed to be. No one has flash enabled at all times. Even on my desktop I dont. You can watch Flash Videos or play Flash Games if you want to. If you do so, you don't care about slow crolling, because you are focused on the flash content - and the content itself is perfectly smooth, that's what it's all about. I can choose, you can't.

@mancreep Ofcourse I don't mean 4G network, but iPhone 4G as in 4th generation iPhone - or iPhone HD as it is also rumoured to be labeled - with iPhone OS 4 on it. iPhone 4/HD and OS 4 are rumoured to launch June 7th on Apple WWDC conference.

There is no checkerboard on Android since version 2.0. I really believe that Froyo has now the fastest web-browser. But still, you have to consider that the 3GS is almost 1 year old hardware, so its not fair to compare it.

@Jinto117 the scrolling is smoother but look at the distance the screen scrolls on the iphone. With the same flick the screen goes much farther on the nexus one. With a strong flick look at how much the screen scrolls on the nexus one. The iphone can not do this. It might be a performance thing where they wanted things to be quicker and more snappy.

@AppleManifesto no. there are so many fanboys up here. anytime some device has a good feature they go "o what ever my iphone is still better" a phone could automatically get a girls number and to them the iphone would still be better. but even if it is or isn't iphone 4.0 beta, android 2.2 is beta too. that's why other devices don't have it yet. the speed is to show which is faster but at the end of the day poeple are gonna go with the device they like. and these are all great devices

@AppleManifesto Apple did a very nice job of seeking out the best thing to start from, and improve it, whichhappened to be a GPLv2 project. This implied that they HAD to release WebKit as opensource... If you look it that way, Google should be thanking the initial KHTML author that he didn't pick a BSD or similar opensource license. And opensource works both ways, Safari benefited just as much from Chrome as the other way around. I just think Chrome wouldn't exist if Webkit didn't.

@Doctors2Advocate Should be faster than the Iphone 4 too... But we'll see. The Iphone 4 is underclocked A4 processor. Snapdragons/Omap/Hummingbird processors in HTC/Droids/Galaxy S phones should be on par, if not sometimes better.

@HipHopIsLyfe37 Google only claimed the highest rendering speed, i.e. the processing power and not how fast a page is downloaded. This "speed test" shown here tests mainly two things: 1. How fast can it download 2. How well does it compete for the bandwith with other devices on the same wireless network. The browsers' processing speed is nearly irrelevant for this, but is the processing speed Google made any claims about, so this test is awfully flawed.

@VODKA0710 Really? I think the nexus one had the smoothest scrolling out of all 3, it definitely has the fastest scrolling.. which is helpful when trying to get to the bottom of a site, and no checkerboard patterns is pretty nice too.

not sure but these tests should be made seperatly with 60fps camera and a precise chrono. the simple fact you have 3 device on the same wifi asking at the same time for a page its impossible that they get it 100% at the same time ... so this test isnt really valid that much ... but yeah it kinda shows how bad flash is slowing down a browser ill give you that ^_^

He's running a stock, vanilla Nexus one with 2.2. With just a minor bit of tweaking any iPhone will not belong in the same room as any Snapdragon/Froyo phone.

i done this speed test with my desire on 2.2 whilst this video was running and i started loading page same time with flash on and mine loaded 3 seconds quicker on the first page this dude loaded and i was on 3g, so this vid does not show how quick 2.2 is.

@possomcrast I'd say I think the sense thing was slow but then again thats cause the only way I can use it is through a custom rom, but being that aside Froyo is definitely much faster than Eclair, this guy probably only used it to test out Froyo, kind of sux Htc doesn't have a Sense Ui build for it yet but well one day

@AngelChildxxx Say what? Why is it "fail"? I think you watched a different video. It is set "On Demand", you can watch videos, if you want to. The Flash contents themselves are perfectly smooth. In my opinion, it is a EPIC FAIL by apple - Android users can use Flash, if they want, others cant.

ok here is my problem with this. first of all the internal cpu of all three of thies phones are different. secondly you are testing opra mini with thies phones. opra compresses 90% of web requests on server farms compress that info and then downlowds to your phone, while the other tow phones are doing the crunching. and finally you are allways starting the iphone first on all your test. how can you have a relay race if you are always letting one guy start befor the rest.
