Richard Bohling Sr Howdy Richard- we originally were just going to build a smaller cabin just to show on KZbin but decided to build something a bit bigger and use it for a small wood working shop and a place to store my old tools I have collected over the years. That hoist is sure a back saver and it’s pretty easy to move around even with a heavy log on it. I do appreciate you watching the videos. God bless you

@@TheBeardedCarpenter Thanks for your reply. You are the first person I have come across that has explained the dovetail geometry in building log walls. You did a good job and I think most folks have a better understanding of why you rotate logs and don't cut them into rectangular slabs to save the calculations. I did enjoy watching all of your videos to date and look forward to future ones.

William FromKy Howdy William- Thank you for the nice compliment. A lot of the old cabins were built and they cut the openings out after the walls were up. I like to cut them as I build because I can save on material using up what would have been cut out for shorter pieces. I put the shorter pieces that go between openings up after the header logs are up. I don’t have to worry about keeping them in place until they have something over them so they can be held in there place. God bless you

Paul, that's beautiful! Your workmanship, how they fit so nicely, and the wood is gorgeous! Funny thing is, I read in Hebrews 3 about the builder having more honor than the house this morning. I know I'm kinda late to the party, but do you have sills, sleepers, and floor lats? I've been reading in the Foxfire book about how they built wood cabins and have been fascinated! Have a good day brother Edit: I need not ask, only look. I'm going to enjoy watching your videos!

Austin Presley Thought l would add a bit about the Foxfire books. I have several of them and they are full of mountain people knowledge. They are a treasure of information for anyone wanting to learn about the old ways. If you haven’t already you can go back and watch the videos from the beginning of the build to see how l did it. It basically is the old way of building but it has been refined quite a bit. Log building can be taken to a different level of precision. Blessings

@@TheBeardedCarpenter Thanks Paul, I've got to give honor where it's due. I've got the first 4 from my library at school, the library has 1 through 8. Funny thing is, while hunting, I began thinking about building a cabin to not give into fleshly thinking and it helped pass time when we weren't seeing much. I've got it down to dimensions, rooms, etc. I watched your first video right after this one earlier today, plan to watch them all, and reference if/when I'm able to make this dream a reality. I know that it is trivial and that everyone has their take on it, but could you show us your method of sharpening your chain saw? I can tell by the chips flying that you maintain a well sharpened blade.

virgil fisher Howdy Virgil- I have been sharpening my saws every since I have been using one. There are some really good videos on KZbin channels that may be able to explain that better than l can. I do need to do a video showing how l sharpen my tools. With my chainsaws I don’t file the drags, or rakers, too much because I like to have good control on how fast it cuts.
