Great lesson, thank you so much! Have you heard the Baden Powell's 1971 version? What do you think of his changes?

Great to hear this. I printed the pdf in work, must have a go at it over the weekend. I think Sid Jacobs might have a Monk for guitar book like his Bill Evans one

He does!? 😮 if so I gotta check it out

There is a book called "Monk for guitar" but I don't think it's by Jacobs

@@Mikkokosmos Ah must be my mistake. One of the review quotes on the back of the Bill Evans book talks about him translating both Evans and Monk for guitar, but maybe he never did a Monk book

Another Monk tune in "alternate" form is "Well You Needn't." Actually, Miles Davis changed it into the version I see in many fake books, with a changed melody. I like it in the original Monk form.

What a treat... a look at chord melody arrangement... on a Monk tune!!! Really great insights, approaches and advice. 'Round Midnight was an excellent choice, a tune that's been played so many different ways. Please do another piece from this book (which I now need to purchase!). Wishing I could become a patreon member, but times have been tough since the pandemic. Thanks so much as always! Take care and stay safe. P.S. Are you aware of the book "Charles Mingus; More Than A Fake Book"? Put together by Andrew Homzy. I played in an ensemble directed by Andrew, where we played exclusively from this volume. It's an excellent look into the music of Mingus which goes into great detail. Highly recommended.

I'm not aware of that book. I am however aware of Andrew Homzy. I have played with his daughter Aline in a group called Les Petits Nouveaux for many years.

@@Mikkokosmos Cool! I don't personally know Andrew Homzy's daughter, but have heard about Les Petits Nouveaux. I met Andrew through his teaching at Concordia University in Montreal. He also transcribed and arranged Mingus' last composition "Epitaph" from the hand written charts provided by Sue Mingus... which weighed 13lbs on the bathroom scale!!! It has been performed by the group Mingus Dynasty. As for the book, I think if one was to work on one piece, it's well worth the price. It's the most in depth analysis of the music of Charles Mingus I've ever come across. I'm pretty confident that you would enjoy perusing its' pages. I know it's still available at amazon dot ca for about $30CDN (published by Hal Leonard).
