I love how these roundabout instructionals always show 1 or 2 cars in the roundabout at a time. Every time I've encountered one, the roundabout is filled with cars, making it extremely difficult to exit when you're in the inside lane. Also, no one is signaling, ever.

Yes its great to have rules but many people do not follow any. The best thing is do not take other drivers possible actions for granted. If u r going exit right lane best to enter in it and stay in until exiting.

Having a "crosswalk" on the exit looks a bit risky. If you are following someone and they suddenly stop for a pedestrian you can be stuck on the roundabout and put yourself/people at risk. I know of one near me but in the middle of town but still a regular cause of confusion.

For anyone thinking to make one of these, just do this: take out the stop signs/traffic lights on the main thoroughfares (there's always a "side" with more traffic than the other). Then, you get the same effect without making everybody drive in a stupid circle. Since, when trying to enter the circle, you have to yield to whomever is in the circle, you're not really accomplishing anything by making a circle (the lighter sides still have to wait and back up traffic). The reason for roundabouts is because a horse and buggy can't make a 90-degree turn. But, cars can. Just make extra left turn lanes if you need to keep straight traffic flowing, but don't try to convince me that driving in a stupid circle makes everything flow better. Sure, it does: for the people on the highest traffic side. You're screwed if you're coming in from the side. Been through enough of them, so I know both how to use them and how little they actually benefit (vs just adding turn lanes and taking out lights/signs on the heaviest traffic sides). It's also kinda suspicious that so few of these "instructional" videos show an actual roundabout with actual traffic in it. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......................

None of these videos/guides ever address the issue that I personally experience the most, and that's entering the roundabout with other vehicles. At least around here, if one car enters, then ALL the cars behind it enter as well, taking the right of way from the cars on their right which were there first.

Do you yield to inner lane traffic that isn't signaling if you're headed to the outer lane? How soon before your exit must you have changed into the outer lane? is it two seconds per lane change? If so, how do you even have time to change two lanes in then two lanes out to make your U-turn?
@NathanielSaintPaul6 жыл бұрын
If you're in the inner lane, do you have the right away when you're going straight through?
@dereknelson93576 жыл бұрын
Nathaniel St. Paul The outside lane should be limited to only 1/4 travel but is permissable to travel through a 1/2 circle but should yield to vehicles on the inside lane turning right to exit. Here is another video start at 1:50 mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqisoIVtm9WDgK8

I was always taught to signal on, when getting onto the roundabout, the video does not show that. Also I have no idea why these are so hard for people to use.
@randyskiba57616 жыл бұрын
Why even both making a video like this if you don't address who has the right-of-way when exiting the round-about? Many people are going to watch this thinking they understand what to do and then when they are actually in the roundabout they will start second guessing if they are going to collide with a car in the outer lane as they go to exit.

Few people know that you do not give way to the right. He who is on or at the roundabout first has the right of way otherwise it would be a “RIGHT of way about”. However I don’t want to end up dead so I give way to the car on the right usually because he is in a stream of traffic going too fast to stop anyway. One day I will get an old truck and educate some drivers.

I think using signal lights it’s crucial in this intersection too bad that nobody uses them at least here I have an idea maybe we should Started to selling cars without the light signal lights. Why do you need them nobody using them anyway so and looks like the police looks only for speeders that is wrong wrong. P S. Maybe they don’t know how to drive by themselves

Where can I buy 1 of those cute lil cars..lol..seriously though, I would love to know what percentage of American drivers screw up in round abouts? I know I struggle with them thankful for videos like this, but it only works when everbody knows the rules (and abides)
@Justme1714 Жыл бұрын
2 lane or double-lane roundabouts are dangerous if you are not from around the area and you don't know for sure where you going very dangerous, I hate them with a passion and will go around just so I would not have to use them and if they show up everywhere, I will stop driving. The single roundabouts are great, see it in Europe, why have double ones, you asking for trouble! Most people don't even know how to use a blinker or who goes first in an intersection! No thank you. I don't know who thought this is a great idea to have double roundabouts.
