I had the longbridge roundabout on my route. It's a nightmare. However, I took a wrong turn safely to avoid that route. 😊 Passed with 5 minors.

I travel all over with my dogs going to competitions and training days, I always look out for signs and markings and never solely rely on my sat nav. Having only passed end of Jan this year, I’m still building my skills and confidence now I’m driving on my own. Off set exits are the ones that can catch me out, I’ve come across some in areas I don’t know and the sign is either broken/faded to the point you can’t see or completely covered by trees 😅 that’s always helpful….. thanks for another great video!

That teeny roundabout at minute 7:45 never did make sense to me, thanks for explaining!

The biggest mistake I made was being in the outside lane which had an arrow pointing right which I believed took me onto the bridge but it actually took me completely around and I ended up going back the way I came. The correct lane was an arrow pointing forward even tho the bridge was on the right.

Hello can you teach me about Interchange roundabouts? To elaborate some people use the first lane to exit to the 3rd exit :/

Hi folks, passed driver still watching here! A request for advice… After passing my test a few months ago I drove on my own for the first time the other day. And on the motorway (not on my own luckily). It was, out of necessity, a long drive of over 200 motorway miles (though I took multiple breaks). Overall it was trouble-free, but I especially found HGVs and tailgaters intimidating, and was concerned about clutch control during motorway slowdowns. Especially because there were a lot of work zones on the M1, and although it is 50mph and I like to stick to that, the HGVs tend to sit on their limiters at 56 and so I found myself being overtaken by them which was scary when in narrow lanes and I felt tempted to speed up but then I would be speeding. Any advice for these things?

Spiral roundabouts are tricky when some drivers don't use them correctly
@PhilMacVee3 ай бұрын
Pardon me but when viewing the roundabout at @5:48 that the route to the second exit is straight ahead. the slightly left positioning of the roundabout does not hide that fact. The signage is in error to suggest there is no through route here! The exit angles seem to be deliberately changed to be so at odds with reality.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool3 ай бұрын
If a new driver approached that roundabout the only information they have before the roundabout is the traffic sign, so they will treat the second exit as a right turn. Drivers local to the roundabout will know that the exit is almost straight ahead and might treat it as such - which could put them on a collision path with the other driver. That is why we think it is safer if everyone just trusts the sign and treats the roundabout in the same way.

In Bury St Eds I found people always use the wrong lane on the mount road roundabout. This is from leaving at the exit after the traffic’s lights, some people use second lane to go straight ahead instead of first, noticing it happening a lot more lately and seeing more drivers getting annoyed.

Yes - it keeps you on your toes! We never drive alongside other vehicles, in case they aren’t going where we expect…

Did my test in Bury St Edmunds in 1976. There were fewer roundabouts then. On another note far too many drivers are travelling way too fast around roundabouts and do not approach with a view to fitting in. If you have to stop and wait to enter or force someone else to stop you've got it wrong. Think about that.

However I'd been taught by multiple driving instructors in the UK that I should still treat all first exits as a left turn with my left signal on before entering the roundabout, as long as that first exit hasn't past the 12 o'clock direction, even if that first exit is at the 12 o'clock straight ahead. 🤔
@AdvanceDrivingSchool3 ай бұрын
We would consider that as poor advice. We know of a roundabout that only has one other exit - to the right. How would you treat that then? The Highway Code says we should use the direction of our exit to guide us, not the number.
@ParcoLee3 ай бұрын
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I remember what they said. In your this case, one straight exit and one right exit, they suggested treating them as one left and one right. They said there's actually nothing misleading as nobody would suppose you'll ever park right inside the roundabout, so your left signal before entering only could ever mean one thing: leaving at the 1st exit, whatever straight or left. The good of this is that you can notify your clear intention early enough so other vehicles could get ready even better for your intention. When I told another UK driving instructor just right close to your place (Colchester or Ipswich? I forget) online in his KZbin video about this, he also agreed with this. He said there's nothing making sense other than you're about to leave at the 1st exit. And he said, both treating that as the 1st exit and the straight ahead exit correct. 🤔🤔🤔

When Brits say roundabouts are tricky to master, then it is not an American problem. PS: And America is very pro-roundabout. We just have stricter criteria.
