Me, as a foreigner I really get confused about the roundabouts in England, it seems so complicated, but that video helped very much so I have to thank you ashley

There is a junction in Devon (Devon Motel near Marsh Barton South exit) where the signage REQUIRES you to use the left lane to take the first of 2 right turns (past the 12 o'clock), so "always use the right lane" is not correct, unfortunately.

So far, so good. I live in an area where there are lot's of mini-roundabouts. Occasionally, everyone gives way to each other, then it depends on who decides to move first. From time to time, some misjudge the amount of time available to 'nip through the gap' in front of one, even though one has the 'right of way'.

2:49 Always find it weird when people go straight over a mini roundabout and signal left.
@WayneTulip-zm9gw2 ай бұрын
1:00 that’s incorrect, there are 2 roundabouts near to where I live where the exit is at 2 o’clock but it’s straight because it’s A607 - A607, you’re staying on the same road, you’re not turning onto a new road, be careful using the 12 o’clock rule, sometimes an exit past 12 o’clock is straight, it’s not always right.
@24pavlo3 жыл бұрын
1:44 can you point the rule saying that you can treat a primary route as a straight on.

Oh mate!! This is brilliant! We have a new 3 lane roundabout that tests the very last nerve of everyone who encounters it as no one knows which lane they should be in even tho it is clearly marked!!! Can I please share yer vid? Or can you rock down here to show us?

Is it a spiral roundabout? Is it anything like these? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jInWhmVsjaaBmrs Thanks for watching and your comments :)
@e-j57007 жыл бұрын
It's not a spiral roundabout. It's three lanes, very big but with narrow lanes, there are four dual carriageways joining and leaving it. There are no actual signs to indicate which lane to be in as you approach it, only what is on the carriageway. The arrows on one of the dual carriageways show the left lane to be for the first and second exit and the right lane show to be for the second and third exits. Most people who want the fourth exit will follow the left hand lane whilst indicating right then indicate left once passing exit three thus not changing lanes at all on the roundabout. Is that right? Sorry for waffling on

Am I correct in thinking nobody has priority if cars approach a ***mini*** roundabout in directly opposite directions and both want to turn to their right? How about if one is turning right, but the other going straight? Remember they are coming from directly opposite sides to each other, basically on a straight road separated by a mini roundabout. Question is for a mini roundabout only.

At two minutes into the video, treating the roundabout ad an extension of the duel carriageway, Is there anything in the highway code to confirm this?

I would love to know what youre meant to do if you want to go back on yourself at a mini roundabout. As ive have a faint memory of someone once telling me im supposed to use my hazards but never did as i wasnt sure and think other drivers might just get more confused even if it was the case
@CptnKremmen2 жыл бұрын
You might say that this is quite boring, but have you seen the standard of roundabout navigation from those with (supposed) licenses? I have to wonder what they did to get a pass.

I get confused with the different information I am given when it comes to mini roundabouts(t junction , 3 exits) ( my biggest mission to conquer reading signs / road markings and understanding lane positioning to take the road you want) … unless I have understood incorrectly my trainer has told me at mini roundabouts no need to signal going straight ahead, no need to signal right at mini roundabout if its continual from the road you come from? … and the double mini roundabouts if going left at the second one on approach to the first mini roundabout Im suppose to direct a pupil “straight ahead at the first round about , left , at the second. Although the first mini roundabout had no 1st exit prior the straight ahead? 🤯 … before training for ADI , I would signal in which ever direction I was wanting to go on a mini roundabout , apart from a cross road roundabout id treat the same as normal roundabout and not signal to go ahead and as they are so small no time to signal coming off

2;33..I was going in the first lane at queens drive Childwall's fiveways roundabout. My exit was third and I was going in the first line. Suddenly, the car coming in the second lane cuts my car to go to the second exit. Fortunately, I was going slow and I was able to pull the brakes in time otherwise this was an accident. Can you guide was this my mistake or his? this roundabout has two lines going to all exits as shown in your video. Thanks

For what it's worth I think it's his fault. No matter what you may or may not have been doing technically wrong (nothing, by the sound of it), people should have enough awareness of others and be accommodating enough not to risk a collision in that way. It's just dodgy driving on their part.
@DeeTeaDee2 жыл бұрын
Left lane on the fiveways is not helpful. What about exiting on the 4th??

On the mini roundabout. Is it okay because it’s the first junction that you’re signaling. There is a 4-way mini roundabout where I live and I never signal to go straight on. Is that correct?
@zzhughesd2 жыл бұрын
I'm a PDi PT3 and I myself struggle with roundabouts ( nuances )... on a mini there is not the time to indicate on the MINI itself ( roundabout )..... But indicate right on approach or left on approach for right, or left respective , no need to cancel when on the MINI, straight ahead is no need to signal on approach , or off, this is in DES Driving Essential Skills,
@janiceN4Nugs6 жыл бұрын
Can I ask.. do you still need to signal if a roundabout is traffic light controlled?
@ashley_neal6 жыл бұрын
Good question! A signal usually helps people emerging on to the roundabout, so it generally won't be a help to most. If you are in doubt though, as long as it's not misleading; put one on. Thanks, Ashley

I have massive trouble keeping in my lane while going on a roundabout. I'm fine emerging, it's just staying in position while i'm steering that I struggle with. Does this get better with practice? Another cracking video by the way!

Who has right of way when every one gets to roundabout at the same time and every one is giving way to the right? It's a vicious circle.
