@@daxsheepard9344 he's right you know. He's not attacking you, and his advice is correct. When it comes down to it, these kicks are low percentage, it's far more important to be able to perform basic movements with extreme levels of precision. That is, if you want to win a fight. If you want to impress people, the fancy stuff will impress people who haven't spent much time in martial arts. But it's good you learned these on your own.

Word. His tip on the 45 degree angle lead knee makes sense. Less likely to tear a tendon in the rear knee cus of improper form✌🏽
@danielhounshell25263 жыл бұрын
I can do all of these without much issue. Then again I did TKD for a really long time. I've had some success with the tornado/spinning roundhouse as a back kick feint. A little more difficult to execute that way, but it usually gets them to lower their hands.
@716tg33 жыл бұрын
Our lead knee in TKD is more of a 90 when these kicks are taught. The 45 angle opening the hips up makes more sense but all schools teach different. I’ve blown my knee out on a double roundhouse cus my hips weren’t placed correctly, my mistake ,it wasn’t fun but this video is gold.. 🤌🏽✌🏽
@Mako7eyes3 жыл бұрын
Hey guys im curious about the differences between kickboxing and TKD, the big thing getting to me in this vid is that he seems to be striking the head with the flat of his foot (small fragile bones) instead of the ball of his foot. Is that an intentional KB thing or is that jus a mistake in the video?
@thedanish55232 жыл бұрын
some of the TKD guys are the best kickers ive had the pleasure of sparring with in kickboxing. Usually when they make the shift to kickboxing they have trouble with anything arm related, especially defense (understandably) but once they pick that up they're really annoying to fight. hard to tell when a kick is coming, or from where, and they can usually kick from orthodox and southpaw equally well. They're really good at masking the trajectory of their kicks.
@garethharker38132 жыл бұрын
Hey Cloud! This is coming a little late, but it’s nice to hear you’re interested in other disciplines and rulesets! If you haven’t figured it out since making this comment, I’ll clarify here. The main difference in roundhouse form isn’t in the ball of the foot vs the top of instep, but in using the lower part of the shin bone for round kicks. The lower shin is used exclusively for this kick in Muay Thai, and also by taekwondo fighters from the 90s and early-to-mid 00s, because one thing that’s tougher than the ball of the foot is the edge of the shin bone. Just be careful, though, because the shin has a triangular cross-section, and you don’t want to kick with the flat side of the triangle but with the corner. Hope that clears things up! Keep on kicking!

I can confidently do lvl 1-10, but to say that i mastered even lvl 1 would be an overstatement fs. Love the use of the front leg roundhouse as a way to frame with the shin, too (possibly even turning into a scissorkick if they bounce off it more to the side instead of back)!

Love it! One way I find success in both Olympic and Open rules TKD with the Tornado Kick is as a trap where the goal is to condition the other person to move back from a Back Kick or a Turning Side Kick, then use the back turning motion as a feint before switching into the roundhouse. Another fun way in open rules is to throw a Spinning Hammer Fist / Back Fist (usually without any intention of landing cleanly) to get their hands up before switching into the roundhouse to the body.

10! Got a KO at a full-contact TKD tournament with a reverse tornado (same kick without set-up kick) Edit: I agree about basics. My bread and butter were roundhouse, sliding sidekick, front leg sidekick, and jump spinning sidekick. I did feel proud of getting a KO with such an advanced technique though. I was state champion and nearly qualified for the Pan American Games at 12 years old though, so I was very serious and dedicated. This was my life until I became a dad. Now I train my son!!

What is most impressing to me is to land a roundhouse kick to the body without catching the elbow in between because it was so fast or it was set up so good so the guy didn't respond in appropriate time. I've seen it happen and it's rare - but I think that is ultimate skill level, basic kick for a KO, but so deceptive and ferocious that it ends the match,

My roundhouse sucks these days. It was always inferior to my thrust kick. I can still get the heel of my thrust kick up to sternum level. I'm supposed to be able to get the heel up to chin level, but I need to work out for 30 days to "refresh" my skills. Hard to do that without a good gym and a bag to kick on though. A guy half my age down the street let me punch and kick his bag a bit, and he said if I punched or kicked someone that hard in a self -defense situation he thought it would mess them up. He was a Gracie black belt who had self-trained a decent roundhouse and thrust kick himself.
