I'm in the same boat same age. I found out the majority of my knee issues are related more to tight adductors and hip flexibility. Had a similar issue in my shoulders due to spending the last 10 years bent over a desk. I had rounded forward shoulders and anterior tilt. This guy is great about focusing on hip flexibility vs. hamstrings.

@@waterlegend72 I did some research back then when I was looking for shin guards. Fairtex has some real nice quality. I bought their shin pads SP5 and they are really good quality. You see this brand often on professional fighters too. The Twins SGL-7 are top notch shin guards as well if you want an alternative. Next time I need new boxing gloves I'll buy fairtex BGV-1 gloves. Hayabusa T3 seems nice too, but I think you get more for your money on fairtex. Venum from what I have experienced is inferior quality compared to those two. They are more focused on having a "cool" design. I have some stuff (thai pads and kick shield) from Phantom which is an Austrian manufacturer (Andy Souwer advertising for it). They may be not quite as well on the level of fairtex but they have a good quality for the price and often some deals. I also bought my previous gloves from them for just 35,-€ but a seam is opening up on them after 1,5 years of training.

Nice little drill sequence 🙂 I was just watching some stuff yesterday on dynamic stretching for improving kick mobility, and this sort of thing was pretty much what that suggested for getting higher round kicks, too.

Hi Gabriel. Love your channel. I'm 58 and new to martial arts. I have been an ultra runner for years and have made the move to Taekwondo so my wife and I can enjoy the sport with our daughter. I have never used my hip flexors in this way so these videos are really helpful. Outside of these drills, will doing some practice kicking most everyday help loosen up and strengthen up the hips and take the stiffness away? Kickboxing is up next! Thanks for all the great content.

I think that honestly people 'blessed' with flexibility and punching power are often forgetting the amount of hard work they did as a kid and as a teenager that has allowed them to be blessed with their current attributes. Just my 2 cents; I wish I'd started younger!

I picked up kickboxing last week and my fkn god I'm stiff..not the good stiff either cause i can be kicked off balance pretty easily even by a 15 year old in my class lmao!! Thankfully I don't need too much drilling for my punches and can get the combinations down after a few attempts..i was doing a cut when I started doing lessons and now I'm gonna be losing weight more so for the mobility aspect rather than getting abs haha.
@anepick92562 жыл бұрын
Some people also just have a weird natural flexibility. A friend of mine about Gabe's age can kick to head height easily and can completely bend their wrists over their feet in a hamstring stretch despite never stretching or practicing.

I would mix it up and see what helps you feel the most improvement. Before might help you kicks flow smoother but after will have a better chance of loosening them deeper as you're really warm and can probably stretch further.
