This is my all time favorite flat ride. I’m glad you decided to go more in depth on it after mentioning it in the Rotor/Gravitron video.

The Round-Up used to raise up and be completely verticle, like a Ferris Wheel. The force keeps the rider pressed up against the wall; you ain't going anywhere. This was one of my favorite rides when I was a kid. I haven't been to a carnival/fair in a long time.

The Frank Hrubetz Round-Up at DelGrosso's has a little chain in front of the rider. I have no idea why it's there, but it is.

For those not in the know, DelGrosso's Amusement Park is located in Tipton, PA and it is owned by a sauce company. Their waterpark is fairly large as well, which they expanded in 2016 for $12.5M. Sadly, that was the park's latest investment... Why do my home parks never get anything?!?!

I believe this is a secondary restraint to the grab bars on the sides of the riders. The chains are also on Riddle Me This mentioned in the video.

Delgrosso's roundup is actually manufactured by Manco. Idlewild's Round Up (Hrubetz Super Round Up) has the chains. I thought all of them had that...

Any model of round-up I’ve been on in the last 30 years had the redundant strap/chain: mostly the traveling carnivals at the county fair in my home town in Montana. But I was on the one at Silverwood in Idaho (summer 2021)-it had the chains too. Seems like a simple and prudent precaution to me. Super fun, chill ride. ☺️ Thanks for the great info vid👍🏻

I remember about 35 years ago Fantasy Island at Grand Island NY had a Round up called the Super Spiral, that ride did have a small chain going across each rider. Also, I miss the UFO at SFDL I believe it's still in storage there.

The 'Super Roundup' at SFGA was one of the first flatrides I ever did; I was in my single-digits when I rode it, and I still enjoy such rides to this day. (I was too frightened of the 'Zodiac' at Dorney Park, which looked to me to be very steep, and never got on it before it left the park.) Like father, like daughter ... one of my daughter's first 'big' rides was 'Zero Gravity' at the Meadowlands State Fair. Whenever we go, she's good for multiple rides on that one. I like these more than Gravitrons, perhaps because they're 'old-school', and maybe simply because they're outdoor. In any case, they're always good for some fun. Sadly, I've never done any of the other versions (save 'UFO', which was at SF Darien Lake at the time I rode it). I'm curious if the 'Tagada' ride is an off-shoot or not. I'm also curious about similar-looking rides that go upside-down (and obviously have more of a restraint than a strap that dangles near your chest). Finally, I've seen YT videos of a ride called 'Moonraker' that kinda resembles a roundup, but with riders sitting down and the angle nearly 90 degrees. I've never seen one in the US; for now, YT videos is as close as I get. Another fun video!

We considered looking into the "sit-down Roundups" for this video, but with just the discoround we were already running out of time, perhaps their own video in the far future.

This ride has to be my all time favorite flat ride ever. My dad calls it the washing Machine and I’ve gone on a tone all different sizes. One time I was at a park with this right before closing I went on it one last time and the ride operator let it run for a extra minute before ending the ride. It was my 4th time going on it that day

Here's my current wishlist for future FROTW videos (sans 'Round Up'): Matterhorn / Flying Bobs & Trabant / Hully Gully - these were mentioned in a previous video, and I look forward to seeing them. . Rainbow / 1001 Nacht Paratrooper Orbiter Miami 'Cuddle-Up' (basically an 'n'th-degree teacup ride) ... I'll never forget the in-the-dark "Iceberg" at Dorney Park

We called this the cage when I was young. And our favourite way to ride it was to keep the chain unfastened and bend our knees up once the ride started! Some kids used to do a hanstand into the dookit and ride that way 🙈

I remember riding one of these a hell of a lot when I was in middle school and high school. The town I grew up in had Homedays at the end of August and they always had a bunch of rides from one of those traveling carnival deals. They always had one of these and a Loop o Plane right next to each other. there was also a janky ass ferris wheel, a kid roller coaster and a couple of smaller spinning things. good times. And I can attest to the fact that there was a little strap in front of each rider.

The Electric Rainbow that is currently at Strickers Grove near Cincinnati originally was a ride at the former Americana Amusement Park aka LeSourdesville Lake in Middletown Ohio. I operated this ride as a teenager working my teen summers at the Park. When the park closed in 2002, Strickers Grove bought the Electric Rainbow and installed it at their park. It was a very popular ride and was beautifully lit at night!😊 I miss the old Americana Amusement Park! Also Fantasy Farm Amusement park that was located directly next door to Americana. Both parks did well however poor management led to the demise of both parks. Middletown was very lucky. 😊

Plus we had Kings Island 15 miles away and Coney Island in Cincinnati 30 smiles away and we used to have Surf Cincinnati and The Beach Waterpark in Mason. We still have Strickers Grove however they are a private Company and only open to the Public a few days out of the year. So sad that we have lost so many parks around here. I sure had loads of fun as a teenager operating the rides at the Amusement Parks i worked as a teen. I worked at Kings Island and Americana at the same time for 2 summers. Also worked at Fantasy Farm one summer. I would work at Kings Island in Potato Works as a morning set up person from 6am to 2pm. I would go home and get changed into my other work outfit for Americana Amusement Park as I was a Rides Supervisor from 330 pm until close at 11 pm. Had many friends and really enjoyed my summers working at these parks. I truly miss them!

I've been on one of these, not sure which one of these it was but it behaved just like this. It was at a state fair and it seemed they maintained it well. The strap restraint is fairly common as far as I know, the one at the state fair I went on had the strap.

As a youngster I remember these being called a 'Gravity Wheel' here in the UK. Colloquially in my area we knew it as the 'Hearts and Diamonds' because of the red and black decorative panels on the outside of the wheel that resembled playing cards. I was never brave enough to ride one in my teens but the next time I see one, I'll be on it!

You should do a separate channel involving Carnival food stands and thier various configurations and layouts. On the inside and out. The York Fair in Pennsylvania has such a variety of food vendors that set up as well as the ones the ride companies bring along that they say up. Would live to see videos on Funnel Cakes, Cotton Candy, Candy Apples, Hot dog and Soft Pretzels, Ice Cream Fried Dough, Lemonade stands, Corn 9n the cob and etc... see the origin of these food stands and how they have evolved up to modern times.

I've never been on a Roundup, and I can't even imagine the feeling haha. Well of course I can, the spin causes you to get pinned towards the backrest, but mixing it with gravity when on it's axis seems intriguing! Dunno if it's a ride i'd like or not, I really do like Gyrospins though! Maybe they are similar.. but opposite?
