Roundwood Timber Frame Build

This video documents us building a roundwood timber frame. We build up from our Japanese Plinth Stone Foundation to a finished Timber Frame that utilizes roundwood logs harvested from where the frame is built. Traditional timber framing uses three different methods for marking out the joints. We use line method which is really the only method that works on round logs. We had a variety of people come and help us out on this project which made it a lot of fun. Many thanks to all those who helped. We are not professional timber framers and this is our first frame build ever. Im curious how you guys plan to frame in the walls? this is pretty cool! I haven't seen anybody do a roundwood timber frame like this before!

Thanks a lot. We are doing a Larsen truss type wall. Basically there is a separate frame surrounding the timber frame that will have r-26 insulation. We’ll post another video at some point there are also some videos of it on our tik tok

Many of these are only partially dried. We used drawboring for a lot of the joinery so that it would dry and become tighter.

Super cool guys. Planning to do something similar here on our place! Where in Arkansas are you guys located? We're in the Boston Mountains and are surrounded by oaks, sweet gums, maples, and sycamores. Just noticed you seem to be in an evergreen forest and was curious where that puts you on the map. Anywho, keep going! This is super cool to watch develop!

It was A LOT of work but also really fun. In the future I would mill the outside edge just to make everything much easier. The Boston Mountains are beautiful. We are in the Ozarks. We have a lot of pines on our property. My guess is someone planted a stand of pines here at some point. Thanks for the encouragement along the way and appreciate the comment!

Gotcha. Much of Arkansas is beautiful wherever you are. Though some of those southern towns are buggy as all get out. @@birchandsparrow
