Do you not realize how easy it to record your live track in a studio and punch in the audience? I’m not saying this take isn’t live. It could be. But it’s not a big deal to punch in retakes of your live stuff. Or did you think KISS alive was actually all live?

I've studied Johns playing for years as well and Jimi's. This really is a perfect rendition. It's simply John playing a beautiful written song. This is all John. He's not emulating Hendrix or even trying. He does an amazing job of making it his own in a way.

jimi hendrix covered sergeant pepper (the beatles) as his opening song in one of his early concerts. Paul Mccartney, said it was an honor to see his song covered by someone he knew would go on to be successful. I think Jimi would love to of seen John mayer playing his music 40 years later.

My favorite part of this cover is the subtle alteration of 'will' to 'won't' at the end of the song. It leaves an open implication that the wind is forgetting the past rather than shutting it out... and I love that concept of just forgetting things through the passing of time......

Nice version, Mayer is a great guitarist influenced by Hendrix, I think he knew how to keep up with today's music industry behavior to succes commercially, and that fame he gained with the pop, permitted him to do all these awesome tributes, his version of wait until tomorrow with john mayer trio is sick!, obviously is never objective to compare it with Hendrix, because he is the actual creator of the songs, but I think that this kind of tributes that a "pop star" can give to Jimis music is very important for the usual listeners of the commercial world, It could even mean a change in today's popular music. I bet there's a lot of people that has discovered Hendrix's music through John Mayer.

You naysayers ever consider the idea that this may be John's way of showing respect and appreciation to an extremely influential artist who may have meant a lot to him? Every artist has their own style otherwise music wouldn't be the multi-billion dollar industry that it is today. Hendrix was well... Hendrix and nobody can take that from him. Just as Hendrix put his heart and soul into this song so did John. You know you did something right in your career when other skilled artists want to embellish on your creation. I personally would like to continue seeing this as time goes by to keep Hendrix's soul carried on. And it probably will.

Why don't you people understand that it's okay to cover songs? And my goodness if anyone has the right to do it, it's John freaking Mayer. You do realize that just about every great blues guitarist covered songs and made them famous. Hendrix, Vaughan, Clapton... Yeah they all covered songs. You know why? BECAUSE THOSE SONGS INSPIRED AND INFLUENCED THEM. Its not about trying to make those songs your own or make them better, its just really fun to play them! So shut up!

@@christian_uu Haters are going to hate, but even that isn't worth getting angry or upset about. People like that have usually got issues of their own and aren't worth engaging with. That said, *any* kind of criticism of someone's beloved musician or public figure, whether it be robust or mild as can be, seems to be utterly intolerable to them; won't serve them well if they conduct themselves this way in other areas of their lives; ultimately stifles debate and people's ability to disagree without completely losing their minds over something as trivial as an opinion on someone's guitar playing.

They said they rolled their eyes and said "Oh great. Another Hendrix clone because that's all we need" and then they listened to it and it was John Mayer covering this one and maybe Little Wing but they said they were blown away by it. LOL!

more people should know of this quote. Seriously, so many people hate on especially john mayer for playing Hendrix songs and the likes and for being inspired by srv/being an occassional clone of srv. it's really tiring IMO. cheers, have a nice day ! :D

After all the Jacks are in there boxes And the CLOWNS HAVE ALL gone to bed You can hear happiness STAGGERING on down the street Footprints dressed in red And the wind whispers Mary A broom is drearly sweeping Of the broken pieces of yesterdays life Somewhere a queen is weeping Somewhere a king has no wife And the wind it cries Mary THE TRAFFIC lights they a turn blue tomorrow And shine the emptiness down on my bed The tiny island sags down the street Cause the life that lives is dead And the wind screams Mary. Will the wind every remember The names it has blown in the past And with this crush it's old age and it's wisdom It whisper no this will be the last And the wind cries Mary.

I don't know how old this is, but it might explain his voice. Not from his vocal issue, but because he was a much breathier singer when he first started. I can tell from his guitar playing this is probably earlier. The tone from his amp isn't the same and he's being a little "cuter" with the solo, than just shredding it like he would now. It kind of sounds like him on Man on the Side.

Jimi is long gone, but he doesn't need any extra exposure. Like any truly great artist his legacy will endure, long after many others have come and gone, or been relegated to "nostalgia" status, ( 80's music, 90's music, etc., etc.) I agree with the late, great Levon Helm, most of what's out there today won't be worth a "pinch of shit" 20 to 40 years from now!

I guess people would rather there not be people like John who appreciate and play music like Hendrix's. Emulation is the biggest form of flattery. Just read a comment that said "Hendrix didn't roll over in his grave, but he twitched." why? Cause his music is loved? Too many ungrateful people in the world.

Wow. I can't believe so many people are hating on JM. His guitar skills are on par with Hendrix and his vocals surpass Hendrix. Not that Hendrix is mediocre or something, its just that JM is pretty freaking good. I personally I like the guitar playing in the original, but the vocals in this. And FYI JM's cover of "Wait Until Tomorrow" blew Hendrix's out of the water. And JM is waaay more versatile than Hendrix. Check out the Live album "Where the Light is". Its amazing.

what? how can you not like this...if your a fan of mayer and a fan of jimi then you should be proud mayer is bringing bluesy hendrix songs to those who normally might not listen. and as far as covers go this is pretty fucking good. please john, stick to the blues

I have always felt Jimi's voice was a large part of his music flowing as they both do. I love John Mayer but really how can you put anyone beyond what this man did. FYI Jimi died 42 years ago today. RIP, Thank You..

You wouldn't know who john mayer was if he didn't make Pop music. It's not a waste of talent either, it takes a LOT more work than you think to make a MILLION DOLLAR SINGLE. Those songs pay his bills, express his feelings, and get him on the radio. Zeppelin was a pop star as well. pop means popular if you didnt know, most people dont.

because they can't handle the fact that he can write great pop songs but still play guitar better than anyone else in the mainstream. That makes people mad.
