ℹ️ About the Episode
In this week's episode, we travel from Springfield, IL (Lincolns home) to St. Louis and stay at DraftKings RV Park right next to the Gateway Arch. We enjoyed our time in St. Louis from the great food, open parks, bikes paths, and museums. What a great RV destination, especially if you have kids. Of course, if you're traveling Route 66, like we are, it's a must-stop.

STL girl here. Everyone lives out in the suburbs and travel to the city for work. For example I live 20 mins down hwy 64 on the IL side but work in soulard. Also covid and crime has a lot to do with it. If you are there during rush hour or after a Cardinals game there is a ton of traffic haha. Also some good restaurants are: Charlie gittos, bogarts/ pappy’s, fountain on locust, tuckers. Sooo many good places!

Yes St. Louis is great but the people live out in the Suburbs. I work downtown and was sent home to work remotely since March 2020. I won't come back to the office until January 2022. So the traffic is not there right now. You picked a great time to come to see St. Louis for less traffic. I love watching your videos and I have to say Trish's expression when she found out he was walking a cat! Awesome! I can't wait to see your next adventure. ❤

We were up the arch a month ago. It was very windy. We were up at the top and could feel it swaying. My brain knows the arch has been around for decades and won’t fall over, but it was still freaky in a fun way.

I laughed when you had to disconnect. I had to do that once, PIA! Everything binds in the tow bar mid-turn. Almost impossible to unhook mid-turn, until you learn the trick. We we're in the top of the St Louis arch 3mos ago, Sept 6th. We also went on the Budweiser tour, and also saw some Clydesdales. Free beer at the end.

Can't believe we missed you guys! Ugh! I used to work right by the Casino Queen and my buddy Todd's brother used to be the President of the casino. Never been to that RV park. It definitely has a great view but it is definitely in a very dangerous part of the area. Glad you all made it through! The St. Louis Arch is a must and I'm glad you got to experience it. Did the video mention that they had to run water over both sides in order to get the final piece to fit? It was so hot that the gap was too small. As for all the people, while there are people who live downtown it is mainly business now. A lot of the employees still work from home thanks to this stupid virus! Next time you guys come through you should definitely check out a St. Louis Cardinals game. There is no better sports town than St. Louis and the Cardinals are just awesome to watch! If you're looking for a really nice RV park out in the burbs check out 370 Lakeside RV Park in St. Peters, MO. Glad you all had a great time! Love your videos! Can't wait to get back on the road and hopefully run into you all.

I totally loved this episode! My first trip to St. Louis in ‘89, I spent the weekend there. I HAD to go up in the arch. You’re right, every time I went through St. Louis afterwards, I looked up to The Arch and said to myself “Yeah, I’ve been up there!” Definitely read the Wikipedia article on The Arch (it’s long!), and scroll down to the part about the stunt parachutists, etc. and The Arch. . It’s pretty amazing what some folks have done there over the years. That son of yours is off the rails, in a good way! It was great seeing him drive the ‘Bird. Rock On, Caleb! Happy Trails

I’ve worked in St. Louis for 43 years. Pre-Covid traffic was horrendous. I’ve been working remote since March 2020 and don’t expect to return to the office until February at the earliest. Most people who work in St. Louis live out in the county or in Illinois. I live about 30 minutes east of St. Louis. There is a lot to do in St. Louis, just be cautious of where you are after dark. Enjoy the rest of your trip and do come back to visit the area again.

When I learned how to drive a school bus, whenever I was to make a right turn I was told to not start the turn until my shoulder was past the perpendicular curb on my right. That is for a 40 foot school bus. I drove school buses for 10 years before my retirement. Just thought I'd let you know.

It sounded like you were using a block to raise just the driver side front wheel to get level. In a Motor Home you need to balance the whole side of the coach, not just one wheel or you will get twisted, make it hard to open the door, as you stated, and could popout a window if get too twisted.

Your question on where is everyone, well it's 2 things really. One is the high crime rate in the city pretty much scares most people off from going downtown. Number two is covid. Downtown is only busy when the Cardinals and the Blues have games now. Downtown is mostly all business district now and with covid, a good portion of people are working from home, i.e. in the suburbs.

My city! Wish we would have run into you all, but we are where all the people are. Out in the suburbs. Downtown is more businesses than living these days. We have purchased a packet of Route 66 maps and can’t wait to have our own adventures.

Yes, exactly...too much crime in the city. The mayor defunding the police sure didn't help either :( Endless suburbia with incredible parks, libraries, and things to do for families, though. Free zoo, free museums...and it's all top-notch. STL is a very very under-rated family town.

Caleb looked so dejected when he couldn’t make the turn. Kudos to him for not being afraid to try. As the owner of a 38’ class A diesel pusher, judging the turns, especially the right turns, is without a doubt the most difficult part of learning to drive it. All it takes is practice and he’s going to rock it!

Welcome. Answering the “Where does everybody go?” question: (1) northwest suburbs [St Charles/O’Fallon/St Peters] (2) South County (3) Metro East [Illinois side of the river]. Downtown does not have much in terms of night life and cultural events. If you’re not there for business, you head out to the burbs.

This is definitely the answer. I feel like the worst congestion is around WashU and Barnes. I have literally been hired by friends to drive them down to the medical area bc they fear the traffic. I drop them off then go hang in forest park.

Lived in St. Louis area from ‘83 to 2000. Loved St. Louis. I noticed the empty streets right away and it made me sad. The devastation of Covid. But I was reminded of mid-90’s when Pope John Paul II was coming to St. Louis. There was so much fear of traffic jams that companies gave their employees the day off, schools closed, and everyone stayed home. The Pope rode up and down empty streets in his popemobile. No one was there to greet him. So embarrassing! But St. Louis has one of the best zoos in the country, located within Forest Park - all free! And Trish would have loved the historic Soulard Farmers Market, the oldest open air public market in the U.S. west of the Mississippi.

The easiest way for Caleb to learn the dynamics of driving a class a is to use a grocery cart. Have him push the cart around a tight 90 degree turn and then have him pull the cart around the same turn from the front. He will see the difference and realize the nose has to extend straight until the hip clears the corner before making the turn.

The voice of the guy on the movie you saw reminded me of the same thing as you except I am older than you two so for me an 8th grade AV boy (school was K-8th back then) would roll in a movie projector and thread the machine with the big reel film. Maybe if you lived downtown and saw it every day you’d stop saying it, but that leads me to the second thing. Not many people live downtown. You asked where did everyone go and the answer is that our beautiful city is so badly managed that it’s a hardship to live and work downtown. It’s not safe and has gotten worse with COVID. Perhaps the NFL/Rams settlement will help, but more likely the city officials will squander the $700 million and the city won’t improve. There is so much to do and so many amazing neighborhoods and history, The City Museum, the Cardinals and the Blues, Soulard area & Farmers Market, the FREE Zoo, The Hill (Italian food like you’ve never had before), Grants Farm and more! Safe travels, see you next week!

23 years ago, I rode to the top of the Arch, I was with two 10yr old girls, my claustrophobia kicked in when the gondola stopped halfway up. The girls looked at me and asked if I was OK, it was not easy to hold it together so I didn’t freak them out. Basically my friend had to talk me into getting back in to get down. Thanks for bring that memory back for me. 🥴

Oh gosh, I had similar experience except my fear is heights … once we got to the top, I just sat down in the middle .. everyone trying to get me to look out … and I’m like is thing moving … it feels like it’s swaying … I couldn’t wait to go back down

I hope Caleb knows who the Fonzie is now. That was funny. Also the part about Zenith. I think our first TV when I was a kid, was a Zenith.

"Where did everybody go"? West to the suburbs haha! Because downtown ends at IL, and IL doesn't invest at all in the IL-side of "East St Louis", downtown is a lot of sports stadiums and crime. Most everyone lives in endless suburbia to the west, hence why it's such an amazing family town. Downtown is actually pretty dangerous, lots of people in town never go there...plus the STL mayor defunded a lot of police making problems even worse. It's sad, really. We love the city. Now, the center of STL is more Clayton or Brentwood, maybe even more west at Westport.

If they are anything like the Kansas City side of the state everyone is in the suburbs and not down town.

Thanks for showing me parts of the city I had no idea existed like the zipper, LOL! Generally when folks come through town we run inside, turn off the lights and peek through the blinds! There were probably 700000 eyes on you at all times!😃 Reminded me of a funny bit by Sebastian Maniscalco called “Doorbell”! Check it out! …All kidding aside, great ep and tell Caleb great job on playing the blues on his sax in the city of St. Louis🤙
