Mr. Milner was clearly robbed of an Emmy nomination for this one. Good job from Maharis, too, for his desperate pleading on the bridge.

Martin Milner did an outstanding acting performance. His depressive fear paranoia combination was very realistic and spot on. Very underrated and unappreciated actor. At that time Maharis was the touted one mainly due to the young female audience.

I too agree, he should have won an Emmy or at least been nominated for one. I will have to find out if he was, I don't know for sure. I have never seen so many emotions in such a short amount of time and so darned believable! Extremely wrenching performance!

Milner should have been nominated for an Emmy. One of the most riveting performances in Dramatic TV, of that time. His role in Adam 12 doesn't even come close. The scripts were impressive, too. I actually watched them film the next segment which was in the same neighborhood "And the Cat Jumped Over The Moon", which is where I was born (12th and Spruce). They did 2 segments in Philly.

Ron Bennett I agree...at the time he should have won an emmy for the performance of that show.

Indeed, Martin Milner REALLY shines in this performance. @mvies77, George Maharis was "touted", as you say, because he got the lion's share of the fan mail, 5,000 and more fan letters per MONTH (they did NOT have email and smartphones for voting back then). Martin Milner did not get anywhere near that much. Also George WAS nominated for an Emmy, in 1962.

Agreed; Milner was clearly robbed of an Emmy nomination for his performance here. Superb episode. I'm surprised that many more female fans went for Maharis! I mean, he was handsome too, but I love Marty.

Probably the "bad boy" thing. Martin Milner was a pretty-boy, all-American, WASP type (even if he was handy with his fists when the need arose, which on "Route 66" seemed to be extraordinarily often). George Maharis looked and spoke like someone from the wrong side of the tracks. Women are suckers for that kind of stuff.

I'm not familiar with Philadelphia geography as I should be, but after a little research, I'm guessing that this climactic scene was filmed at the Ben Franklin Bridge. The crossbeams on one of its towers, seen at 3:31, is the clue.

Al Lewis WAS grandpa Munster. Herman HAD to take Lily's name and he had none. Remember? They made him out of old parts.

Yes Phila for sure, I live near the far suburbs. I thought this show had only taken place in the west, but I saw another from Fl. I was very young when this was on TV but even as a young child I liked it. I saw uncle Festus as the bar owner. Who was red the piano player? This was about a psychedelic trip in 1961 before Timothy Leary. This was a great episode and well researched for the time and acurate as to what happen in a LSD type experience. I love the theme song as well!

@northernsteel1 Al Lewis was the one and only Grandpa Munster! I never understood how his last name could be Munster since that was his son-in-law's last name? Oh well, I guess you can't question great art. :)

Failing to heed the obvious warning of this great, well written portrayal of the MK Ultra mind control gone wrong,,, the people of America were tempted to embraced the acid trip for the next 10 years plus!!

Well, they could have done this episode differently. Instead of the potential horrors of mind-altering drugs . . . they could have portrayed the potential bliss. Instead of the experience with the Woman being a horror story . . . it could have been the bliss which each of us is seeking . . . in his own travels on Route 66.
