Madlyn Rhue later appeared in Star Trek as Kahn's woman, Lt. McGivers with red hair. I enjoy seeing these landmarks in Route 66.

I love Route 66…every episode I dreamed of being travelling throughout America and saving a girl. I had that feeling when I was 5 years old. I still have the feeling today. This show gave me purpose and enlightened me on manhood, the way things used to be. Funny, i still am there…1965.

This show was years ahead of its time! Excellent writing each week and great performances by the actors who appeared on the episodes. To think these episodes were created each week in different locations all over America. Actually, Route 66 was not even used that much for the roads and highways. But, being on location every week was a great demand for everyone. It goes to show that even back then in my opinion no only this show, but, many were ahead of its time and a great proving ground for artistic freedom and creativity.

I never seen such a versatile pair of guys, test piloting speed boats on Lake Havasu one week and managing a big hotel the next. And always dining with the rich and famous, and becoming intimately involved in their lives...before moving on to the next episode. What a life and, in the early 60s, America loved these two!

Excellent writing, and fine directing. In a television episode (not a feature-length film), this sophisticated 50-minute episode packed a lot of power. This looks to have Stirling Silliphant’s touch throughout. Thank you to Alberto Barros for sharing, so the rest of us could enjoy the experience.

An interesting episode for sure!!! I remember her brother (Robert Drivas) from the movie 'Cool HandLuke' and the father (Jack Kruschen) from several character actor roles... The girl (Madlyn Rhue) who plays 'ARA' is beautiful & exotic, and she is a perfect match with George Maharis... Apparently, this episode was written at a time when Bi-polar disorder was not well known by the general public... I like the older classic cars and the actors/actress's who were in their prime at that time, but who have mostly passed away by now... Great memories of real values and qualities that T.V. frequently displayed in programs like this one- 60+ years ago...

Props to the writers and Nelson Riddle for the soundtrack. Excellent production. I remember this show like 77 Sunset Strip. Never watched em cuz I was only like 4 or 5. But the titles and theme songs are familiar. Please do keep posting these.

Always wondered how two men traveling across country in a corvette with two small suitcases manage to pack all the clothes they need for the different occasions: road construction, odd jobs, suit-and-tie dinners, weddings and formal affairs, etc. My guess is they'd EACH need a Winnebago!

I like route 66 except so many of the episodes get too deep into people's emotional problems. It's like they have the only psychiatric office on wheels.

Ah, doing the twist. It must have been about 1962 or so. I remember when it first came out and everybody was telling you how to do it. Like you were putting out a cigarette with your toe while shaking your hips back and forth. Why do they play the squacking out sound when the peel out of a dirt road?

How tragic..and somewhat ironic...although this episode does not detail what her neuromuscular disorder was, years later.in the late seventies, Madlyn Rhue would develop Multiple Sclerosis and suffer for years, leading to confinement to a wheelchair.....what a beautiful woman...

They aren’t real characters. They are symbols. Only the others in the story are real, and they are visited by the insights delivered by the symbolic characters. Messengers from God-angels.

If Tod & Buz were real characters we wouldn't bother watching them because our own experience would be sufficiently novel. All fictive entertainment would fail for the same reason. I think the show is sufficiently realistic and informing as is. I also believe our heroes serve up pretty decent advice and assistance to those in need when called upon to do so. Their characters may appear shallow, stereotyped or fonie due to the nature of the genre--a weekly production that attempts to place them in an all-new environment and in proximity to some other who is at risk or distressed in some way that the viewer has yet to encounter in a prior episode. For the same reason, the supporting roles are no more real than the lead roles. Realize that there is a moral aspect to all fictive characters, not just our traveling duo , and that the very point of the Route 66 series surely was to emphasize the commonalities amongst Americans and to stress the importance of coming to the aid of fellow citizens as needed. Didactic symbols to be sure, but hardly a criticism. It is more likely that you have failed to embrace the spirit of the Route 66 concept.
