Just wanted to say thanks for such an in-depth review of the course at Chula. As someone that was considering attending, you've definitely helped me out immensely by putting out all of this information and your thoughts. You've convinced me that Chula is the place I want to go to learn Thai. Thanks again!

How is your Thai speaking after completing this course? Is this chula intensive course heavy on reading and writing and neglecting Thai speaking? or you feel like you improved massively in your speaking thanks to this course? thanks so much.
@routergods3 ай бұрын
@@DanielleR-u1b it depends on why you want to improve your speaking. If you plan on working at the corporate level in Thailand then Chula is great. If you aren’t then there are probably other options from a time/cost standpoint. This course does have some speaking but def not as much as other schools. I’m pretty sure I covered this aspect in the video in the timestamps there’s a section about speaking and whether this class works for certain groups of people

Even though I'm curious enough to keep watching, you'd terrified me away from ever attending. It's not that I wouldn't want the challenge, it's just at this stage in my life I don't have the hours each day. Well, well, well --- read some forums and changed my mind. :) If you get a chance, maybe you can interview another student (even off camera just asking them a quick viewpoint); specifically - someone who's already spoken Thai a few years and is using Chula to really "polish up" to the professional level. My understanding from what I saw on forums was that, if you've spoken Thai a few years already, the cognitive burden of the mental work of the classes themselves will be so substantially reduced that you only need about 30 mins ~ 2 hours outside class study per night. I guess an example would be that there are 20 new vocab words for such a person, but 10 were "on the tip of their tongue" so studying the 10 only takes 5 minutes. Or, writing is familiar enough to not cause any stress; listening changes into meaning in the brain without effort, etc. (To be clear, I'm not someone who's spoken Thai for years, but I'd simply read a bunch of books in Thai for 6mos/1yr before attending to make it less rough lol)

Congratulations on passing! Looking to study at Chula to get far enough to where I feel confident applying for Citizenship, I've had some tutoring and lessons on italki but it seems like the best idea would be starting from Intensive Thai 1. Curious on your general consensus/idea of running through 1-6 (at least) while having Thai being the main focus over that time and if you think burnout is common for these courses. I got my BSBA in the US, but I know Chula will be a lot more difficult and strict when it comes to workload and grading.

I'll have full immersion outside of class time (living on Thammassat campus), so hopefully that'd lessen the burden a bit.
@routergods7 ай бұрын
@@Rowestah I know people who have done 1-6 in a row, but I'd say most people do take a break or two between classes. Since you're still being exposed to thai during the break, it's probably ok.

@@routergods Gotcha. I'll give it a shot and see how I feel after 1-3. Thank you and best of luck!

Which thai television channels do you follow? What percentage can you pick up now?

Couple months ago I posted a video talking about all the channels I watch - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqnLfp-bjNCZq8U - I understand about 80-ish%, but that depends on the topic.

Thai is deeply influenced by ancient India. Buddhism came from India. Thai people are very aware of ghost and the idea of ghostly behavior, like sickness, destruction and revenge, fascinated the Thai people since ancient time. And many remedies are used for cures.
