My band as M32C and DL32. They want this to be their IEM rack and control Preamps of the DL32. Then, they want to use AES50 to send those inputs to a venue FOH X32 mixer. I am trying to wrap my head around this. Here's what I have: DL32 configured as master clock (48k). DL32 AES A connected to M32C AES50 A. M32C set Sync to AES50A, and routed with AES50A as input sources 1-32. M32C set to Lock the stagebox. M32C set to control AES50A preamps. M32C is also routing outputs to AES50A for buses 1-10 for IEMs. Then, DL32 AES50 B connected to FOH x32 AES50 A port. X32 FOH set Sync to AES50A, and routed with AES50A as input sources 1-32. This should give FOH all our DL32 inputs with Gain Trim only. Thus, they can mix FOH as they see fit for the venue. There is no need to send audio from M32C to X32 or vice versa. They simply want to share the DL32 as if it was a physical splitter snake. Will this work? Is there something wrong with this solution???

This is insanely confusing without actually having my consoles in front of me. Im gonna have to just setup my two consoles side by side and test this out when we get our rack console in. I also gotta figure out how to route our PC audio from the FOH Aux ins out to monitors and to LR.

Hi, great video. I have a group that is wanting to do 8 stereo in ears (using up all 16 outs on the S32). I also have an S16. I'm wondering if I could use the S16 for main outs, and give the group all of the outs from S32. Would that be possible? Can I connect the AESB from the S32 to AESA on the S16, and route the mains to it? Also, my Rack Unit is the M32C, with no ins/outs.

this revision to the other two videos is great. im going to set up in this orientation this month. We have a X32 full at FOH, M32c at Monitors, and two SD16s. I was curious about routing for adding in waves sound grid at FOH. Following your guide instead of the FOH X32 taking in over AES50 A 1-32, it will take in Card outs 1-32. and card will then receive the AES50 A 1-32 from the daisy chain downstream?

That sounds correct. Also, I probably would not send the card channels to the monitor console in case there is any latency. Send them the channels from AES50-A

Hi Chad, thanks for the video, very useful. Id like to do a similar setup and I'm curious if I can switch on just the X32 for mons during the rehearsals or do I need to switch them both on ? Confused on the preamps and clock settings in this case..

With this particular routing setup, it would be best to have both consoles on. Now, if you prefer that the monitor console be the gain master, then just disregard the part of the video where I give HA Remote control to the other console. By not pressing that option, the monitor console will be the gain master and the FOH console will have trim control. Hope that helps :) -Chad

Hey m8...nice tips for the auxes remap!! Just one question...I am watching and watching again your video and trying to understand how are you getting the inputs from the stage box??? They are connected to x32rack mixer through aes50b correct?? So shouldn't you select at x32rack at routing/home/aes50b1-32??? I was also thinking about this, the mon x32 sends the s32 inputs to foh x32 via aes50A then the x32foh sends back to mon on Aes50A. Is this required for the setup when you want foh to be the gain master? Trying to understand what's the difference of just receiving snake inputs on x32 mon from aes50B ?

Is it possible to connect stagebox to FoH A and then FoH B to a brodcast mixer or do I need to go back through the stagebox? This would save a lot of cable pulling.

FOH Inputs (Home): AES50A 1-32 AES50 B Outputs: B1-8 - Outputs 1-8 (up to 6 additional channels) B9-16 - Outputs 9-16 (optional) B17-24 - AES50A 1-8 (from stagebox) B25-32 - AES50A 9-16 B33-40 - AES50A 17-24 B41-48 - AES50A 25-32 BCast Inputs (Home tab): AES50B 17-48 Aux in remap - AES50B 1-6 In this example, the mixers are connected via the B port of each console.

We have a X32Rack and an X32Core along with 2 S16's- would it be possible to use the x32Rack for FOH and Monitors while using the X32Core for a broadcast console linking them as you have outlined here? Since the X32Core has no physical outputs do you know how I would setup the routing for the broadcast console outputs? I'm just trying to determine how to get the broadcast mix as a separate mix for the web out, if that makes sense. Thank you for your video... super helpful!

hey your vids have been most helpful, but the one area i wished you talked on more, seems to be the area you just glance over. we have 2 X32 consoles and a S16 stage box, and two P16 routers sending to about 12 p16s. by following your video i was able to essentially hook up the two mixers, FOH Aes50 B to S16. (The A port dont work for some reason) the out S16 Aes50 B to broadcast Aes50 A. Our setup is 16 channels from S16 1-16 and 17 -32 local at FOH. Following the vids in these series of vids i was able to send a mix to the other x32, but how and where do i connect my P16s?

Hey Chad, if you wanted to connect two M32 racks via DANTE, you would need DANTE cards for both M32 units correct? You would also lose the ability to adjust preamps from the FOH unit correct? You would have to have a stage box connected directly to the FOH unit via AES50 and then connect the two X32s via the DANTE cards on each correct?

Yes, both consoles would need a Dante card. Yes, whichever console is connected to the stage boxes via AES50 will have gain control. Dante is really useful when you have a vast network of mixers and especially when you have a mix of brands that need to communicate with one another. If you have a small setup like FOH and Monitors and they’re both in the X32/M32 family, it would be better to use AES50 for your communication since, on the X32, the card slot is limited to 32 channels but AES50 can do 48. Also, you can give gain control to another console. Your monitor console could be what’s connected to the stage boxes but could allow FOH to have control of gain, if you prefer it that way (and I do haha). This is a useful feature. -Chad

Question - Can I use 2 x32 rack's mounted on stage (Giving me a FOH mix and separate Monitor mix) connected through AES50 A, and send AES50 B to something like the "Klark Teknik DN9630" in a broadcast room to create a broadcast mix in a DAW? It wasn't very clear, lol sorry about that. How does panning left and right for IEMs work out? Do you have to mirror the house desk or can you change assignments on the Rack X32 to do stereo link so you can pan left or right on your IEMs? I have several musicians who like putting guitar in left ear vocals both piano right ect. I found the MX-Q app that does work that way.

2 options for you so that you can utilize your P16’s and still be able to run more than 32 channels between your mixers: - Route your mixers like this: Digital Snake/P16(A) -> (A)FOH(B) -> (A)Broadcast OR - run a second Ethernet from FOH to the P16, by utilizing the Ultranet output on your mixer. This will output your 16 channels through this second cable so you don’t have to use AES50 41-48. Hope that helps :) -Chad

Will the monitor console hear the EQ etc from FOH? Can't you patch the inputs from the stagebox (port B in this scenario) in the routing tab rather than sending the inputs from port B to port A (FOH) then back down from port A to port A of mons? In my mind, it feels like there is added latency even if isn't noticeable, however in my case I intend to use Waves Multirack at Mons and FOH which will, of course, add latency, but I'm trying to reduce it as much as possible. Multirack at mons seems a bit extreme, but I intend to record the board mix on USB rather than multitrack or use of an external computer.

2 reasons why I do the extra routing: 1) if you ever do a virtual soundcheck from FOH, this allows you to send those channels to Mons at the same time by only changing the routing at 1 console. This can be really useful for dialing in in-ear mixes. 2) There are up to 6 busses that I can send in this scenario from FOH to Mons, by sending all the audio from FOH, any latency that occurs will be equal on individual channels and busses so you won’t get any comb filtering if someone’s mix has a channel that is coming from a bus and direct from the channel. The added latency is negligible with this method. I haven’t measured it but I’ve never had a drummer notice it :) Thanks for watching and commenting! -Chad

I am doing studio recording but, I need more I/O's because I am finally getting my gear out of storage, and I would like to connect all of my Keyboards out puts for routing in to my DAW. At our church, we have our computer, cd, DVD, and the USB in our aux inputs. We often play sound through these channels. We are right now trying to connect two boards so we can play through the house and send a separate mix to the cameras for live streaming. How would you route the two boards to be able to control the aux from the computer, cd, and DVD on the "slave" mixer? Is there anything specific that you would need to do?

In this older video that I’ll link below, I show some ways that you can submix channels with that method. Digital routing is fantastic but equally confusing...LOL! I connected my FOH X32 to a X32 Rack and S16 that are placed at side stage. The live stream computer that sits in the FOH video booth normally got fed from two of the bus sends. All of the bus sends are at the stage now. Is there any way to get bus sends to occur at both FOH and the stage?

Rufus Crowder So, generally your outputs via the AES50 ports are in groups of 8 yes but your output channels have 16 outs that can be personalized for whatever you want (such as deciding which outputs will have your main left and right signals). As a default, if you were to say route your stream busses to outputs 9 and 10, that feed would come out of 9 and 10 of your digital snake AND 9 and 10 on the mixer itself. There are ways to change this but as a default, that is how the routing is set up. If you’re having issues, in the routing menu, go to the XLR tab and verify that your XLR outs 1-16 are in fact outputting Outs 1-16. If not, then your scene has been modified at some point along the way.

When I do the same I don't get any sound from my monitors connected to output 1 through output 8 of my DL32. But when I'm on my M32C (monitor console) in > routing > aes50 B > outputs 1-8. If I set it to Out 1-8 there, I get sound from my monitors, and if I set it to Out 9-16 as in your video, I get no sound from my monitors. Is that normal ? Hopefully this is a little bit clearer because my English is not that good... Sorry about that !

In the example in my video, the physical output of the DL32 are outputting 9-16 of the monitor console out of the first 8 XLRs and 9-16 of the FOH console out of the DL32’s XLR’s 9-16. And than you can use output 9-16 of the DL32 for the FOH. correct ? I was confused for a moment because my M32C has no physical in and outputs.

Why are you taking the Inputs for your Monitor Console from the FOH instead of taking the Inputs for your Monitor Console from the S32 directly? I don't see the benefits. It’s odd, I know. Two reasons: - it guarantees that all the audio is hitting the monitor console at the same time (since some audio is coming from FOH, like the talkback channel etc) - it makes it easier to do a virtual soundcheck at both consoles at the same time. You will only need to change the routing at one console to affect both for virtual soundcheck. -Chad

@@devin1leon if you were to do a virtual soundcheck to help dial in the settings on both consoles, you would only need to change the input blocks at FOH to CARD and you would also do the same for the AES50 sends from FOH. This will swap audio at Monitors as well.

Hi, is it possible to switch clock source to the Mon‘s X32 Rack instead of FOH, in order to keep the gain levels of the X32Rack uneffected? Otherwise it effects my in ear Mix indirectly when the Sound Engineer turns down or up the gain Levels at FOH. But when the X32Rack as InEar mixer has the clock source and gain control, the FOH only has Trim control, Right?

Absolutely. If that works better for you, that is definitely an option. I’d also work with your team to set gain properly and consistently. If your FOH engineer is “mixing to unity”, I’d give him resources to teach him how to use his meters instead. Hi Chad; Thanx for the response. I think there are 2 design problems with the x32/x32r/S32 setups. Please correct me when I‘m wrong: a) the clocksouce for syncing the S32 has to be pluged into its own AES50 A-Port. The b-Port is Not working as clocksource port. b) the outputs are only recieved through the AES50 a-port on the S32 snake. In that case it is Not possible, to get gain control and clocksource from the X32Rack to the S32 when connected to it’s AES50 b-port. It needs to be a-port. And on the other side it’s Not possible to send the Outputs 1-16 from FOH to the S32 snake when connected to it’s B-port. So my idea, to get the x32r working as clocksource via Port A (S32), and parallel recieving outputs 1-16 from FOH into the B-port (S32) is Not possible… the only way to do it is to put the X32Rack in between Snake and FOH; like you demonstrated… in your Videos, Thank you very much.

Hi, this is a great setup. The only thing I would change is, where you have your B passing through to A on the Mon X32 Rack, I would offset them by one bank, so that AESB 1-8 is sent over AESA 9-16, and so on. This Frees up AESA1-8 to use to send Your AUX 1-6/Mon down there to front of house so you can then, Aux remap to your FOH auxs, specifically for monitoring the SOLOs of the X32 Rack. You loose the ability to send P16 down the digital snake, but most of the time your X32 Rack/core is stage end and you can plug your P16's direct into the Ultranet port. Makes sense? @@Kuuuks 2 thoughts for you. 1- if your cable run will allow, run the FOH A port to your stage and the B port to your broadcast console. 2- If you can’t do option 1, I’d suggest running an extra cat5 to the stage and connect from the Ultranet connector on the back of the mixer instead of the one on your stage box. If I remember correctly, by doing this, you don’t have to send your P16 channels down your AES 40-48 channels. I hope that helps :) -Chad

@@AWTechTuesday Currently this is my setup, FOH runs to port A on the snake and Port B from the snake runs to the live stream Mixer,. P16 is connected to the Ultranet on the Snake. On my routing page it’s setup AES50 A output 1-8, 9-16 which is the default then 17-24, 25-32 is AES50, 33-40 P16 1-8 and 41-48 is P16 9-16... Though my live stream mixer is getting all the 32 channels from the FOH mixer does this mean 1-24 is picking what I’m sending to my output speakers? Help please. 🙏🏾

This question isn’t relevant to this video, I apologize for that in advance. But I can’t find an answer to a question I’m facing. We’re running a stereo PA system, and in context we’re talking bus sends. The 9 channels that make up our drum group are being sent to a stereo bus mix before hitting the main LR. However I finding it difficult to pan those drums around in the stereo field. I feel like panning knobs only work for the Mains and center. Is there a way to pan the drums on the channel level?

When you’re passing channels from monitors to FOH, instead of selecting inputs from a stage box, choose Local 1-8 (rack inputs 1-8).

Hey Priyan! Yes, the video you linked is easier but it it’s also much more limited. Basically, that method will allow you to share 32 channels between consoles. The method in my video will allow you to maximize shared channels to allow you to send talkback and much more. I hope that makes sense :) Have a great day! -Chad

I tried this setup and it didn’t work.... I have a digital snake A connected to the FOH mixer and Port B connected to the live stream mixer Port A... On the FOH AES50-a output 1-8, 9-16 is using output 1-8,9-16 to send audio to my speakers and monitors etc but my Monitor mixer is still getting all my channels from 1-32 I didn’t have to change the 17-24 etc to receive Channels 1-8 etc and didn’t have to change the monitor mix to AES50 to receive signals from AES50 17-24 I still have it set at AES50 1-8 9-16 etc and it still receives all the channels I tried your method and it didn’t work.. stick with the Behringer instructions that works better....

Depending on the model and firmware of your snake, sometimes you can use the snake as a pass-thru, and sometimes you can’t. That’s one reason why I no longer suggest that configuration. The benefit of connecting the way this video shows are that you can share 38 channels between consoles instead of 32 and, if you want to do a virtual soundcheck, you can easily do it from one console to send signal to both at the same time. @@AWTechTuesday Thx for everything but I think the AES50-A out send the audio out to your speakers via the digital snake 1-16 out, now the AES50-B out is where you select AES50-A as you signal source so the AES50-B out gets the signal and then sends it to the AES50-B on the digital which then connects to your MON input A.. now on the MON mixer you select AES50-A as your signal source...
