Fantastic video showing Rover as a market leader at the time.

My 220T still runs fine, it is still in original state and the engine was never opened...

had a top-line one of these back n 96 and it suffered from a drive shaft defect. It was fixed under warranty, was an unbelievable stable car and was a very fast car and the first to do 150mph

You got one of the last ones! I still drive everyday my 216 for 28 years now! Cheers!

They set quite a few land speed records back in the 90's. The Metro GTi's held various records. Shame the management and unions saw fit to destroy Rover

I hate the way people assume rovers to be nothing but crap because they were capable.

Still a better car than most of the modern crap produced today.

True words mate! This is not a computer on wheels. It´s a fun car, dangerous if you don´t handle properly but very fun to drive indeed.

I had an L reg one too, miss that car! Nothing like taking the glass roof out on a hot day and sticking the panels in the soft bag in the boot

I bet all those involved in this video are pissed right off , about what ended up happening to Rover. R.I.P.

The calm before the storm, such a sad shame we have the ghost of MG floating around like a proped up dead body shadow of it past.

Still look good today, like the Calibra, most cars look dated these days even from 15 years ago. Wonder if joining the EU in the 70s was the real reason behind all the strikes and bad management ? out of over a hundred car makers to basically none, Look whos on top, the germans and french I've seen the Eu giving grants for companies to go to other places in the Eu, Not just uk Companies but others too.

And then what did we do??? Exactly the same as with everything else of value in the country - gave it away to foreigners!
@evo5dave6 жыл бұрын
Well the 200 was based on a Honda so, strictly speaking the foreigners gave something away to us, then we f***ed it up and sold it to the Germans who then gave it back to us and we f***ed it up again.
@SampleTracks22244 жыл бұрын
@@evo5dave yup. Sadly almost everything you touch does seem to turn to shit.
@SpitfireFortyFour4 жыл бұрын
@@SampleTracks2224 To be fair the Germans fucked it up the worst. Their treatment and management of Rover was terrible. The cars of this era and just after were good and the company was profitable. Then BMW made a mess of everything and sold it the notoriously dodgy Phoenix consortium who had no plans to maintain the company. They just wanted the money, they lined their banks and sold everything they could. Criminal.

they were fast but not for long just as if you n.o.s your engine for to long enjoy the short feeling and then you change engine poor

Handling was crap and the head gaskets. But looks great
@MsBananasmel8 жыл бұрын
T16 was a completely different engine and didn't have the same HG problems ( not really a problem unless you neglect your car and don't look after it, mine 114000 miles on original HG) as the K series. They do suffer sometimes from an oil weep.
@jomaoliveira79497 жыл бұрын
My father had a 1995 XW 214 SEI K series and in 17 years of ownership never had a head gasket failure. Now it belongs to my uncle and guess ... 0 problems!! But the reason may be caution driving and servicing. Miss it, was a good car at the time and good acceleration, almost a hot hatch.
@TheBlaert5 жыл бұрын
HGF was a myth in my opinion, mainly from people who never serviced the cars. Out of 6 K-series engined cars I owned I never had a single head gasket failure. And 2 of those were hillclimb cars. And generally Rovers handled better than most of their rivals
@FordCortinamk3-w2hАй бұрын
Totally agree , if miss treated any car would fuck up and as for head gasket they keep on about on rover cars there’s no problem with them , if you want to take the piss out of some cars take a look at some BMWs the head gasket goes and also recently reported they set on fire to , Land Rover are shite they keep breaking down you see loads stuck on the sides of motorways and Audi - merc’s and most other makes also since mid 90’s ford are proper crap , rover and Honda built some good cars and good handling from factory build to , I’ve got two tomcats and two MG ZS 180’s to they are still going very strong unlike modern CRAP
