Great video & The legend has showed us how to sympathetically fit those self tappers & he was quite gentle with the hammer. My grandad was a marine engineer, if I was using the hammer, he’d shout ‘ Hit it, it’s got neither mother nor father ‘

@@tsheritageengineering well then! We were going to use one of Tom's however his lead time didn't work with our plans! I'll see how Dad gets on the next few days if that's ok and if he really struggles I may take you up on that very kind offer!

My neighbour had a spring tear into the front tyre of his Peugeot 406 when the larger diameter middle coil let go, shot past the spring seat and took out the brake hose too. A ridiculous design and bloody lethal if the spring seat doesn't have a spring catcher like the Rover 75. My neighbout was lucky in that his spring snapped while reversing out the driveway but imagine if that had happened while driving.

Well done Jon and dad on some great work again on the 75 it is peace of mind to fit them but I was under the impression the diesels were more susceptible with the heavier front end The car is looking better and better well done both and glad your dad has something to lean on on the floor now hope you both feel better soon Daniel

The springs are the same on all vauxhall I've had they are cheap material I've replaced so many. Got myself a Rover 75 today its been a while Petrol 2.0 v6 wanted a 75 turbo 1.8 but they are a bit thin on the ground..

Didn't it occur to anybody to just make decent springs that don't break? I've just sold an Audi A6 after driving it 331,000 miles with a lot of weight in it (business use) with the original springs still shiny black and good as new.

Most springs are poorly produced now, they’re designed to fail

Put some grease on those bolts which will ensure they come out in future if spring or damper changed and swamp those struts and springs with some anti corrosion protection and the subframe. Looks bone dry under there 😊
@JonCoupland11 ай бұрын
Aye its good under there
@Fourwheeledfarming Жыл бұрын
Interesting the 75 has the same anti roll bar link bar setup as used on the early R50 minis from launch in 2001 and then phased out in 2002. Joins to the based plate of damper where the spring sits

Check the rear springs as well they usually break at bottom.....common fault on all coil spring cars these days

It wasn't a mandatory recall or service recall. According to the technical bulletin it effected a number of cars not all so that's why they haven't been fitted. To be honest they won't stop a spring from going in to the tyre. It all depends where it breaks.
@JonCoupland Жыл бұрын
I was under the impression it was an official recall. R/2002/050 As you say. It probably won't stop a spring ... But it might and that's ok 👍

A lot of anecdotes suggest it's most common for a 75 spring to break when reversing! Thankfully that's at low speeds...

It’s a shame that your father is so against and negative about the 75 as it most likely kept him in a job for several years maybe buy an A35 next time.too keep him happy. Let’s be positive about the last and most important British vehicle produced 🇬🇧

🤣 I don't think dad was ever short of work in the motor mechanic trade nor would he ever be if not retired. I can wholeheartedly see why he's feeling negative about it now. It's been stuck in his garage for over a month, he's been poorly and it's cold. It wears you down. Id probably be the same. He also has a massive fleet of cars I own to maintain. I'm going to cut the poor bloke some slack 🤣

⚠️We would not drive a 75 without these protectors as we've seen the consequences like shredded tyres and ruptured brake lines (rubber or metal) They work 99% of the time so definitely worth fitting. We used to order 10 sets at a time, but demand has dropped off last couple of years. @Jules75ZT NORTH WALES SPECIALIST
