In the mid-70s I had a 1956 Rover 90 (with freewheel) as a daily and long-distance driver. I loved that old auntie! Once it got up to top speed (90 mph in the right conditions) it would stay there and just purr along all day. It covered 512K *miles* before a blown head gasket signalled its retirement. The only trouble it ever gave was caused by Lucas the Prince of Darkness who would summarily douse the lights or the spark at an inconvenient moment. I also owned other P4s: a 75, 100, 105R, 110, followed by three P5s. I fantasised about building a replica Rover Jet 1 from the many P4 body spares I had in the backyard - but there was a wife in those days and she had other ideas. LOL

Bought 2 of these in the mid 70,s (Paid £60 for each one!!) Both 1958 Rover90 , neither fitted with Freewheel. Drove across Holland & Germany in 1975 in UFG266 , never missed a beat. Only 21 mpg i remember!!

Opps I refer to the car as a P5 early on....of course I mean P4!
@petercrooks34615 жыл бұрын
Bradley James Classics why do you refer to it as being automatic when the video clearly shows a clutch pedal and manual gear change?
@bradleyjamesclassics5 жыл бұрын
Peter Crooks - this is a mystery I can’t possibly explain.....perhaps I was having a nervous breakdown at the time of the recording?

+Bradley James Classics : Regarding an 'X' in the registration number ... in 1968 I owned a Rover 105S (very similar looking car, also black/red interior) ... the Reg. number was TXN521 which was a standard London County Council registration in that period. My 105S was first registered in 1959 so only nine years old when I had it.

I had a p4. Burned more oil than petrol! A beautiful car.

frank barrow - a peach of an engine that deserved to fixed in your case!....an easy engine to work on too. I think people just endure the high oil consumption...when really they need a few valve stem oil seals

You inadvertently introduce this as a P5. It is infact a P4. Sure a minor error, otherwise thanks for sharing a great video.

She was a pleasure to have around Tom. A real pride and joy car…..sadly lots of people only ever want to find fault, maybe it brings them lots of pleasure. I personally just feel sorry for people who do this.

This certainly looks a lovely car, but it has a later ie 100 grill, and those wheels look like later ones made for disc brakes, which just spoils the look. I would also disagree about those tyres; cross plies suit a P4 much better in my opinion.. A lovely car nonetheless.

That's what my wife says....:). However, not a vet, but a retired minister and not British, but Dutch./ South African. Unfortunately, due to sickness no longer capable to drive cars with a gear shift. Drive a Saab 2.3 T(love that car) with an automatic and cruise control and these 2 items are absolutely required for me.
@bradleyjamesclassics7 жыл бұрын
Hi Walter, the Saab 2.3T is a fine engine and i love that boost!....if you are ever passing through Southern England, i will take you for a drive in one of my Rovers!
@waltertaljaard14887 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the offer. Know the UK quite well, since my mrs for 35 yrs comes from Glasgow. But have to crawl around on crutches or in a wheelchair these days (reason why automatic and cruise are a must), so the only way to travel for me over longer distances actually is my Saab 95, which has been my loyal and reliable companion for the past 7 yrs.

The seats look like ambla to me. Should be leather. If its worth doing. Do it right. Cutting corners.
@bradleyjamesclassics5 ай бұрын
I would agree with you if you were correct. Surely you must feel a little embarrassed making these sorts of statements? Sometimes it’s much better to say nothing, than say something thats wrong? This car didn’t have any corners cut whatsoever, it was owned by a true gentleman who is no longer with us. He would have laughed at your attempt to rubbish his car too.
