The pinnacle of BMC/BL/ARG/RG/MGR history. BMW bought the group right at its peak and it went down hill from there, although not all BMW's fault.

I wish BAe had invested properly in RG during their tenure, no continued reliance on Honda IP, enough money for new models. Could all have been very different.

@@andyb3666no rover should of stayed with Honda and they would still be here, rover went behind Honda’s back to bmw then bmw stabbed rover in the back as bmw knew what they wanted. Honda provided very good chassis’s and bulletproof engines but he ho I only own Hondas as they don’t fail unlike German rubbish

BMW just wanted the MINI name and Land Rover 4x4 systems for X5
@andyb36668 ай бұрын
This is a myth. The X5 was based on the E39 5 series AWD estate. About the only LR tech it used was Hill Descent Control & that wasn’t invented by LR, it was bought in. They weren’t thinking about the New MINI when they bought the company either. BMW lost a fortune owning Rover Group & were still out of pocket after selling LR to Ford. They would’ve been better off financially never getting involved.

Land Rover started by Rover and finally just Land/Range Rover; MG was belonged to Rover until hiatus then the so-called SAIC obtained MG and worst closed MG Longbridge place down for good...

It was the tie up with Honda that brought all this about- BMW approach was all wrong and not viable. Should have continued the Honda link
@andyb36668 ай бұрын
If BAe had invested more in Rover they would’ve been able to move away from relying on expensive Honda technology & make something better & more profitable than the new 200 & 400 in 1995.
