Hi Alex, Loved the ride along Rover swap and great to see and hear Mr Jenkins on the move again. I would still love to own one of those...that would suit my personna much better... Oh, in answer to your little question about your hair enroute to the garages, it looks fine, I've always thought so as it brings back good memories. Keep the wheels turning, Take care, Jon B.

Great video again Alex - I had a SAAB 900 that I only used rarely, and it lived in a very similar Garage to yours. I used to throw a BIG dust sheet over her when she was parked up - stopped all the dirt and dust on her - just a suggestion, and I left the front windows down half an inch too. Take care 🙂

Great film, and really love Jessie. Is she a forever keeper as the way you talk about your cars it's as if they were family.

Hi Alex, I’m new to your channel, It’s great to get to use a classic car as a daily and why not!? I had a 1970 Wolseley 1300 back in the 2000’s and apart from not liking heavy rain it was a fun daily driver with plenty of go, although my mum hated it calling it a “Jaloppy” yes you can use an ADO 16 as a daily driver! It’s nice to see a P4 being used to do your daily running around. Great video!

Just be careful in Mr Jenkins, I had a ’69 manual P6 in ’77, enjoyed it thoroughly in the decent weather. Living in the Devon countryside, the hamlet of Beacon nr the village of Luppitt to be precise. Regular getaways to Penzance as well as to and from work in Honiton and shopping in Taunton. The car drove and felt well. The purchasing mistake I will never repeat is not about the car itself. I bought it from a garage about midway between Honiton and Axminster. Not in a sale yard but from the owners who had obviously used it as a working vehicle. My guess is that they had precise knowledge as to how the car was travelling and off loaded it. First was the internal upholstered quarter panel from the rear ledge to the roof lining started leaning in. The one underneath was scratched and ruined and a replacement had just been jammed over the top. So every now and then I had to jam it back in and always check before I took anyone out in the car. Next one Saturday morning in Exeter I had just fuelled up and the starter motor jammed. About 11:00, so 2nd or third gear, I started rocking the car and it freed. Well, under every cloud the sunshine peeps through sometimes and today was my day for a happy ending. The guy in the filling station who helped me rock the car told me the company dead across the road replaced heads on starter motors, and yes they were open. The best possible outcome as I don’t like the exchange jobs. Coming from the wilds of Devon not many places are as flat as filling stations to rock a car and the last thing I needed was to have to wait till I had time off again to get it fixed, and as a 5am country bumpkin starter I could’ve done without having to call a taxi to get to work. Under the impression the car had been well maintained when I bought it I decided to put it in for a service with the Honiton Main dealer on the outside of town. The car was laid up for almost two weeks because the clutch main cylinder was leaking and had to be replaced, which took ages because Unipart had just come into existence and all the parts bins were mixed up. Everyone was affected; personally I think it was Union sabotage. When I got the car back it was running so poorly I booked it in to the Vauxhall dealer. Apparently the timing was miles and miles and miles out. Although the issues I had were in some ways people orientated things were starting to wear thin. When winter came and the snow hit I took a slightly longer but less challenging route home but she still left the road on a not too sharp uphill corner. Off the road, not in a ditch, but stuck so I walked about a kilometre home. That was when I decided to sell the car in the spring, the issues I had varied from what to expect from a second hand car but compounded by the people I went to in good faith. I could wear that because the car would eventually come good and I was invested, but if it couldn’t get me home on the easiest possible route? I replaced the car with a Triumph spitfire at a dealer in Axminster who would not accept my P6 in part exchange. I bought the Spitfire about 6 weeks later anyway and sold the P6 off, by which time rust had started to come through on the white paint across the rear window boot lid area. A lovely car to drive, but it had already started to look tatty in the short time I owned it. I still fed my Rover addiction buy also buying a 1959ish Rover 80. Another lovely car that gave me no trouble at all other than the usual stuff. I already had a spare fuel pump and pre empted the starter motor and got it serviced at an independent garage directly opposite the Honiton main dealer. It was my Sunday lunchtime up the pub car and I absolutely loved it and all the P4’s I’ve owned. Just be careful in the bad weather with Mr Jenkins Alex, the long wheelbase makes it a free radical on corners this time of year in the UK. It’s well made and will keep you pretty safe in an accident, except for a T-bone, but so will Jesse, the difference being Jesse will perform better and is far more likely to get you home in bad really bad weather. Top marks from me go to the ‘53/54 Rover 60/75, they’re less boaty to drive than the later ones and I hope some of your mutuals in the in the meets give you a drive on one. Another Jesse question. I noticed the speedometer seemed quite steady, I remember you had moved to checking out the magnets, how did you fix that? Once again thanks for sharing your beautiful car, inspires the creative writer and my wife to enquire what I’m up to!! Hahahah.🙃🙃🙃

Good one Alex. It was nice to see Mr Jenkins again. A quick question if you don't mind. Do you use E5 fuel (or the super unleaded) in both cars? I recently acquired a '97 C200 Mercedes and I'm wondering if I should be using the E5 in that and not E10. Or maybe use an additive like Redex Petrol Booster if I can only get E10. Just wondered if you've had any advice on fuelling older cars. Keep up the good work btw!
@Alexsassets
@Alexsassets Жыл бұрын
Hi David! I would go for super unleaded for the Merc. Esso fuel apparently has no ethanol in it and is 99octane. That's what I use in all of my cars if I can.

I don't know how you can bear to put Jessie away. Much as I like P6s, I'd still love a P4. My problem is that I get too fond of the cars I have and couldn't sell one to be able to buy a P4.

@@Alexsassets I could do that, but then nowhere to put a P4, and maintaining 3 classics would be a bit much.

@@Alexsassets Actually that makes sense, cars are usually a negative to borrow money for because they are generally a depreciating asset, but not Jesse. On top of that you're protecting your asset by looking after it.🙃

Hey I paid £3500 for Jessie . But I've done alot of work to her cosmetically. I would say £6k to get a really decent one. Depends what model you want too.
