I love your engineering "profanisaurus" its incredible, long may it reign.......the joys of threadlock!

Composite head gaskets and fingers firmly crossed I'd say in view of the loctite and overtightened head bolts - suspect it needs decking. Now the sumps off it's well worth a peak at the bearing shells as well for sure, if there isn't a lovely copper hue I'll be amazed 😂

You where extremely fortunate Richard that none of those head bolts snaped what on earth does anybody need to use thread lock on the cylinder head bolts mad ! great work as always Sir.

Aircon = Condensor at the front, evaporator in the dash, filter/dryer and then compressor that’s basically it. 😊. Used to fit aftermarket systems to tractors in my yoof

Hello, keep up the good work, more a dedication than work i believe. I also work on older defenders, and range rover classics. It's a good feeling when you can make them better, i understand the frustration when rectifing other peoples mistakes and bad choisss. Keeping these cars on the road is a mission. Greatings from Belguim.

I agree whole heartedly, I really enjoy most of my work and this is a hobby turned into a business so I had better enjoy it. Sorting out bodges is always a challenge though, especially when it comes to invoice the customer day

I haven't removed the heads, but I'm in a similar position. Replacing tappets. Thank you for all of the information.

Had to remove crankshaft bolt on my skoda octavia. Pulley locking tool made and fitted. Two half inch extensions and socket fitted to bolt. Extensions resting on axle stand. Large breaker bar and 4 foot tube fitted to breaker bar. 15 stone of me jumping up and down on tube and finally the bolt came undone. Wonder if the V8 gasket was blowing and someone overtightened bolts in hope it would fix it. If you can get some heavy steel plate which you know to be flat then what i have done before is to fix some abrasive paper to it and rub it back and forth on block and you can see the low spots. With the head bolts being that tight it may have pulled the threads up in the block in which case it may be an engine out.

spoiler alert, this version of the Rover v8 utilises stretch bolts and the manual doesn't suggest that they may need to be replaced. The heads had been off before which is hardly surprising given the age of the car, alas some ham fisted cretinous fart stain had used threadlock!! Yep on the headbolts. Tightest fixing I ever had to work with was front Right Hand hub nut on an Austin Allegro.

Never mind the paint on the slam panel at 33:53… Please fold some cardboard or an old towel over the bodywork if you’re going to do that sort of thing.

At the start of the video i felt quiite comfortable but then I caught sight of all the junk all over the floor a real trip hazard.. tools buckets fire extinguishers wood metal cardboard plastic oil dust etc etc. This resulted in me going into a deep feeling of utter despair and hopelessness similar to how Rachel Reeves feels every morning.

The breather is on the right hand rocker cover, that might explain why that side is dirtier, as all the crap will be drawn up that side of the engine. Locktite on head bolts WTF!
@MregRangieResto-t1e17 күн бұрын
Is it Dale's car that you had to fight loctite when doing the rear brake calibers and discs? maybe the same mechanic? Yep, that engine is not going to rust on the outside.

Heads have probably never been off as from factory I think they where dry steel on ally. Often badly corroded. I’ve done a 3.5 where they where all stupidly tight

Thank you, drop me an email. I know enough to keep myself out of trouble and there are enough good dedicated specialists nearby to take on this sort of thing

I never used to know anything about air condition on cars until I came to live in AZ and ended up fixing them a lot, you do have to buy some equipment (Manifold set) but it really is not difficult, and as you are an intelligent person I bet you could soon learn and therefore add another string to your bow, and another thing you could charge for. Whilst it is obvious the camshaft is (cattle trucked) what about the cam bearings ? Lets start an Anti Threadlock club. I cannot understand how you work wearing such clothes and gloves (I know you have to because is so cold in blighty) but somehow you need to insulate your workshop or move to a better premises, you will be more productive I promise.
@churchhouseclassics15 күн бұрын
I hear you but there are enough aircon specialists within farting distance of me already. I have the manifold and vacuum pump so I can pre test a system. I would rather leave the maintenance and refurb to someone who does it all day long however. Much easier for me that way. You should have seen me yesterday -6c at midday, beyond nippy, I looked like a grubby Bibendum. I am however quite happy to work in these hostile temperatures, for now. Could be worse, I could be a chippy or a scaffolder working outside and against the clock in a wintery sleet gale.
