@ True One...The 80's huh? Please, we go back to Michael & the Jacksons, as well as before then with Motown, cause they were all kids from the Detroit Brewster Projects, and surrounding neighborhoods. Even before then Little Anthony & The Imperials, as well as most of those 60's harmony groups, and the 50's Do-wops before them.... Did you see Cadillac Records? lol.... To leave the business at 25 and still be considered to be the best female Emcee ever and one of the greatest of all time is serious. Real talk though, who's a better female Rapper than her that many people know about? MC Lyte is tight but it's real close. Shante's lyrics were gutter hard.

First of all I'm not racist. I'm just calling it like I see it. When rap music started, it was a new genre of music made BY black people FOR black people. But what happened? White people attached themselves to it because they knew from the start that rap music would become a cash cow for them. Even without an ounce of talent or skill, a white person could become filthy rich if he involved himself in music that had absolutely nothing to do with a white person. How you may ask? By building record companies that catered to young black artists like Roxanne Shante here. When they got an artist, 9/10 they were young kids who didn't understand the music business as far as dollars and cents go. And they got these young artists to sign away all of their publishing rights, song ownerships, royalties, etc., etc. for large sums of money upfront. $100,000 for a song sounds good to a 16 or 17 year old kid. But what they didn't know is that once their record had ran it's course and nobody bought it anymore, there would be no more money, no more cars, no more jewelry, no more nothing. And when the company decided the artist had become a liability and not an asset, they were let go with no strings attached. But, and here's the kicker, THE RECORD COMPANY COULD STILL MAKE MONEY OFF OF AN ARTIST WHO WAS NO LONGER WITH THEIR COMPANY. For example: Last week, I was watching TV and a commercial came on about a new drug for hair loss or some shit. The commercial was aimed at white men 45+ years of age or older who were going bald. But they had Friends by Whodini playing in the background. Who do you think got paid for the use of that song in that commercial? Not Whodini! Whodini has not belonged to a major record label in over 30 years. The record label they belonged to back in the 80's OWNS THE RIGHTS TO THAT SONG AND GETS A ROYALTY CHECK EVERY TIME THAT SONG IS USED IN A COMMERCIAL! A rap song that came out in 1984 is being used to promote a product to stop balding in white men in 2019 and Whodini is not being paid one red cent. That's what I mean when I say that white people attached themselves to our music. Almost like the Alien who attached themselves to a person's face! Because they knew they could make money off of black people in the present day and in the future without having a lick of talent.
