Is it possible to convert any alcohol like I.p or Ethenol or ketone like Acetone into Proplene or Ethelene Carbonate solvent ?? Diy ?
@beb1527Ай бұрын
It was so long ago, in Organic Chem lab. We made aspirin. The first step was extracting something from mint and reacting it with something to make salicylic acid. I remember using vinegar (acetic acid), after that at some point. But I'm pretty sure there is another step that I'm missing here - I'm thinking we did another reaction to make acetylsalicylate and then to Aspirin, which is acetylsalicylic acid. I can't find the instructions online. - (edit: you are awesome, i found your video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKjaZqppbZZ5iLM and that has my answer)

Very cool memory! People usually really enjoy the aspirin synthesis, especially because the wintergreen smells really good. Thanks for sharing your story!

I often perform hydrolysis like these in a lab I'm working at, the way we do it is by adding the NaOH right after the solution enter reflux, it immediately precipitates out, it's kinda beautiful
@NumbGeek4 ай бұрын
The way we got to this procedure is kinda funny too, a student was performing the hydrolysis, but she forgot to add the NaOH, and the solution was refluxing, then she added the base and everything precipitated, we use the accidental method ever since

You boil the methyl sali and then add the lye?
@NumbGeekАй бұрын
@@squigglesmcjr199 i don't hydrolyze methyl sali, I hydrolyze a molecule we work with in the lab, we add our compound in ethanol, let it reflux then add the NaOH solution
