True of absolutely everyone in my life in our 20s and 30s, no matter what our genre was, rock, blues, reggae, jazz, underground, punk, alternative, rap........absolutely everyone had Avalon. Delicious memories of moments these songs soundtracked in our lives.

Sir Ridley Scott (born 30 November 1937) is an English film director and producer. He has directed, among others, the science fiction films Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982) and The Martian (2015), the road crime film Thelma & Louise (1991), the historical drama film Gladiator (2000), and the war film Black Hawk Down (2001). Scott began his career in television as a designer and director before moving into advertising, where he honed his filmmaking skills by making inventive mini-films for television commercials.

Roxy Music is one of my favorite bands (saw them live once as well). The older stuff from the first five albums are fantastic, great lyrics too (e.g., "You know I don't talk much, except to myself, 'cause I've not much to say, and there's nobody else, who's ready and willing, and able to know me, I guess..." "...then I step back thinking, of life's inner meaning, and my latest fling...it's the same old story, all love-and-glory, it's a pantomime, when you're looking for love in a looking glass world, it's pretty hard to fine...")

Ferry is a musical and lyrical genius up there with all the greats such as those from the American song book which I suspect informs a lot of his work

"Somebody sang like this to me.......?" Avalon would be on a three hour loop, you would disappear behind that door and we'd see you next week.

You should do a song by song reaction to the whole album. It's great. There is also a song on the B side of the single More Than This that wasn't on this great album, and should have been. Thankfully, I found it as a bonus cut on a British import CD with that B side on it. To me, it completes the album. You would love that British CD of Avalon.

Avalon is from a time that the Welsh ruled in land we now call England. Avalon comes from Afallon...meaning apple orchard. Remember to react to roxy music songs you have never heard Do the strand.... Or .... Virginia Plain

I am old enough to recall the early Roxy,a kind of jazz punk glam rock thing. Then this Latin sex rock done superbly . Ferry wears the tuxedo like an old school aristocrat, exudes the air of cool that one is either born with,or not.He is of no priveliged background but plays the part. Quality and style lasts don't it?
