I was born in 1966 and feel lucky to be a teenager in the 80's. Carefree years, great music, I could go on. I'm 58 years old now and I no longer fit into this world and neither do I want to. It's changed and not for the better. Homesick for what once existed but will never return and now looking forward to going home whenever it's my time to depart from his earth. I feel sad and worried for today's children and future generations. Their freedom is being stolen and they will surely have a fight on their hands to reclaim it.

I was born in 1982 and am now 42 years old, but I feel that what you're saying is very true. Although I only experienced a few years of the 1980s as a child, the music and the atmosphere of that era were undoubtedly wonderful. Despite having little firsthand experience of it, the 1980s continue to be an object of admiration for me to this day.

My younger brother, whom I clash with horribly on politics ( he hates Trump) told his wife that he "needed his older brother." He told me that it was me who shaped his taste in music. Bowie; Roxy Music; Peter Gabriel; Elvis Costello; Iggy Pop and assorted 80's new wave. I was massively flattered. Sadly, I let politics get in the way of our relationship. Gotta' put that away and save the relationship. People matter. Politics come and go.....

Road tripped from Newport to Mexico in 83 with a buddy and our GFs, this was the only cassette in the car, the radio didn't work but the tape deck did. Listened to this entire album non stop, repeatedly, all the way there. Should have been sick of it. Not. While they all slept on the trip back I listened to it again, and again as I drove, and Avalon became not only in my top 5 songs ever but thee defining soundtrack to my memory of that trip. It's a place I think back to often.

Ah, - the perfect music for the initiation of a night with special someone, where the chemical connections of both participants are burning bright; or, for driving the faded streets of your younger days, with everything seen and felt in a nostalgic, comforting glow; or, for a warm embrace on a high rise balcony with a view of millions of twinkling lights below and beyond; or -- just for a lazy cozy Sunday morning at home… This is music for all those moments in a life that are beautiful, majestic, romantic, exquisite. Actually I think the 80s was one of the less creative decades Roxy Music was cool in there way and this video proves how very 80s they were. However I could go through a string of bands from the 60s will say the Sonic's and Stooges on one end to say Jefferson Airplane. And the first jam band the 70s gave us everything from Black Flag tell Linda Ronstadt the 90s had the popularization of punk. With everything from Alanis Morissette to Nirvana and mudhoney. The 2000s kind of sucked but you get the highly overrated but influential White Stripes. Is The Strokes in The Killers. I'm just scratching the surface of each decade to show that it has more to do with Nostalgia and where you may have been when you heard a certain song then one decade being necessarily more important to the than the other. Not my favorite Brian Eno project but definitely set the tone for a lot of what came in the 80s .

This song came on the radio when I was driving to the funeral of an 18 year old named Mark, he was reckless, like myself and of similar age. I couldn’t get it out of my head, that it could’ve been me in that coffin. I have continued to be reckless for the past 42 years, touch wood, with no serious consequences . I believe that Mark is somehow living his life through me. When I hear Avalon it makes me melancholy, but reminds me to live life to the fullest and don’t worry about petty things.

@@lavidaesunalenteja336 Hello. I respectfully disagree. I am not a songwriter or musician, so I can only speculate about why she is vocalizing the way she is. But for some reason I'm reminded of the calls and songs that various birds make. And if that was the intent, to go with the falcon-themed visuals of the video, Yanik Etienne has added depth and dimension to the song in a way that is both otherworldly and shows her gifts for vocal range and ability to sustain it for as long as she did. When Roxy Music plays Avalon, no backup singer can match what she has done for this song. This version of Avalon remains definitive and canon.

A day has never gone by without me listening to this track since 2012 (through some video game). Don't blame me, I am just 24yrs old 🙈 I actually listen to the whole album, but this track is my favourite. And there's also Slave to Love, which I found out about while watching Kingsman The Secret Service.

I was born in 1965 and feel lucky to be a teenager in the 80's. Carefree years, great music, I could go on. I'm 59 years old now and I no longer fit into this world and neither do I want to. It's changed and not for the better. Homesick for what once existed but will never return and now looking forward to going home whenever it's my time to depart from his earth. I feel sad and worried for today's children and future generations. Their freedom is being stolen and they will surely have a fight on their hands to reclaim it. 268 Reply

1982. A great year for music. I dont think knew how much we'd appreciate how good this was in 2022.

Probably the *best* year for music, in *so* many genres - it was like a musical evolutionary explosion which even outdid the '60s and will never be beaten. (But never say never...😼)

Between this song and the song Slave to Love, they just tear me up. Was in my 20's in the eighties, and this music helped form me. Always in my soul.

Wow! You are really blessed to have been a youth in the 80’s, I’m very nostalgic of eras I wasn’t born.

i was a teen in the eighties, loved more than this too. i remember buying the cassette for slave to love and all my friends laughed at me for having such awesome taste. screw them they are all still living in the small town we grew up in still listening to def leppard, and i'm the city girl. :P

Wow! an elegant song that relaxes the soul. Mr Bryan Ferry is a fine gentleman. I am proud to say that when this track was first released, I was there to listen and enjoy it on the radio...

What we are subjected to today in music is disappointing and boring - and stands nowhere near this creation from Roxy Music. As beautiful and elegant as it is timeless and fresh - it's a privilege to listen to and a pleasure to watch. Avalon.

I was 30 years old at that time. We still had good music, and freedom. Free to travel, free to smoke, free to have fun. I thought that kind of life would last forever.
