Ah, that first Roxy Music album - might as well have been beamed in from another planet, so unlike anything anyone had heard before. This is an amazing song, a fan and band favourite for decades. You've never quite managed to acquire a taste for Bryan Ferry's voice, have you? It is very mannered, and that heavy vibrato can be a dealbreaker for some. I think he's fab though!

The 15 minute live version is on Viva Roxy Music is evocative of Stairway to Heaven, there used to be a 24 minute cut from the same performance on a political blog somewhere

Now like CCR Ramble Tamble , Stairway to Heaven , Sweet’s Love Is Like Oxygen , Neil Young’s Change Your Mind and 3Days by Jane’s Addiction this is one of those iconic lengthy album tracks that just puts a spell on you ! Oh and by the way I must get cosmic on you before I end this . You did not choose this epic song , it chose you !

The first minute is kind of corny or cheesy, but the rest is a masterpiece. Andy MacKay on saxophone and oboe.

The cheesy-ish beginning for me adds something to the overall song by providing a contrast to the rest.

Currently I rank Bryan Ferry and/or Roxy Music third best with Supertramp second and Caravan best. [Pink Floyd fourth].
