Holy crap. Why have I not seen this until now? These guys were off the chain marvelous! Whether there were "party favors" being passed out backstage beforehand, I don't care. Roxy Music was on fire! 🔥🎷🎸🎶

Only just came across this. What a fantastic video. One of the best live Roxy performances on KZbin. A superb version of this song, even though it was pretty old at this time. They definitely must have partaken of some pre-concert mood enhancer. Mind you Bryan Ferry looks a bit like Alan Partridge on ecstasy, he was always ahead of the times 😂

The thrill of it all indeed!!! One of the most exciting pieces of music you could ever hear--the final jam is incredible. Roxy Music and Talking Heads are my favourite bands of the 70s and 80s. It's Beethoven, Mahler and Walton these days, rock is dead...
@lucalemmetti53944 жыл бұрын

Worth seeing the whole hour Dortmund show. Opening with "The Bogus Man"!! How badass is that? This version of "Thrill" rocks, with Manzanera going wild at the end. Also great to see them perform "Jealous Guy" soon after John Lennon was killed, months before Roxy recorded their own famous version. Bryan Ferry is leaping around during this show. I'm not saying there was caffeine and Novocaine involved, but wow, a world away from their sedate Avalon tour.
@michaeldawe649111 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments. Just to be clear, "Jealous Guy" was recorded the day after Lennon was shot. I was in New York packing to go start rehearsing with them when the news came on TV that he had been killed. The next day (Dec. 9), I flew to London and the recording was made in Phil Manzanera's studio.

@michaeldawe64917 ай бұрын
Truth be told, the impeccable Dave Skinner (keys) started the song at exactly the right tempo as rehearsed. It was played here just the way Bryan wanted it. The original had a fantastic groove but they wanted to do it a completely different way and the original approach didn't work at the new tempo.

Some bohemian denizens of the rare pockets of taste during the decade from hell might feel you warrant castration for such a comment. However, I'm fascinated, in much the same way as viewing a documentary about post-war German guilt, in your opinion of this light blue Yuppie arrangement now. Culturally, it speaks like an SS uniform but in terms of line and cut, those dead Nazi tailors would puke.

In retrospect you can see that Ferry was nothing more than a pop singer! He wrote some good lyrics but he always wanted to be a mainstream pop star! (Look at his later stuff both with Roxy and solo!). Without Manzanera, Mackay and Thompson he would have sunk like a stone! Brian Eno did the best move by moving out!
