My grandpa, Roy B. Acuff, was 2nd cousin to Roy Acuff. Our family was very musical. I was able to get a degree in music. My mom met Roy Acuff at the grand Ole opry.

Roy Acuff taught Pete Kirby, better known as Bashful Brother Oswald, how to read and write, after Pete started working for Roy's band, The Smokey Mountain Boys. Kirby worked for Roy from 1938 until Roy's passing in 1992.
