First heard this at the end of The Departed-I was falling asleep while every one was being shot in the head and then this guitar took off the top of mine-how I missed this man in my fifty years of listening to rock and blues ,I don't know but am eternally greatful to Martin Scorsese for using this in his movie or I never would have known about Roy-cuts me to the soul every time I hear it-thanx to all who have posted his videos;

Snuck into Armadillo World HQ, Austin Tx in 1974 when I was 15 and saw Roy. I had never really heard of him and was completely, completely blown away! What that man could do with simple guitar and amp was so ahead of his time. Shame he left us so soon! Thanks for posting these clips lee32uk you have brought back some great memories of a truly magical night many years ago :-)

This song makes me weak... simply beautiful. Deepest respect for those that paved the way for so many others, especially for those that knew fame would elude them. Though the list would be terribly long, I grew up just outside of DC listening to 2 of the best... Danny and Roy.

I have obtained the 1971 PBS DVD and CD from randytoma, and I urge anyone who is a fan of Buchanan to do likewise. The superb version of Sweet Dreams that got taken down from KZbin is on there, and there are many other spellbinding examples of Roy's Telecaster mastery. All in all, an absolute "must have" and I am extremely grateful to randy for making this music available.

The album version of this is sensational. You can sense his feelings with each pick of the string he makes. This is great too but if you can, check out the album. His other tunes are great also. Keep it alive!
@tomjones99352 жыл бұрын
Agreed- it’s so emotional- I play myself, and he has a Master’s touch for tone. I read many years ago that he would rewire his pickups in his Telecasters a bit differently than Leo Fender did to help him get such exquisite tones.

I love Roy ! This song is haunting and make's me feel reflective. I think he was one of the best guitar player's. Some of his blue's are so good I just cant believe it. Now the other side, He over played at time's, Just because you know the lick's and they fit doe's not mean they sound good. Sometimes it's what you dont play that make's it sound even better. He tryed to think out of the box, that's good. Thats how new music come's along, On this song, play it staight and with feeling.

Roy, Roy, Roy.... what a MASTER of the telecaster. Will some screenwriter PLEASE write a screenplay on his life? What a story? From the small towns of America to recognition by the greats of rock and roll (the Rolling Stones and Jeff Beck for example); constantly running from his demons; never "making it" in a commercial sense; and ultimately dying in a jail cell by hanging.... Roy's is an amazing story. I can see Robert DiNero playing the part of Roy? Anyone?

John Hyatt - Roy lost his life in jail in Fairfax County, VA, not in Baltimore. Inspection of the body showed signs of a beating. Roy was the best along with Danny Gatton. Both lived in the DC area, Danny in MD and Roy in Northern VA. Both unique talents and two of the best "tele" players ever. Both lost to us. Sad. Nobody played with more "feeling" than Roy!!
