Roy was a Neigbour of mine in the late 1980s, i spoke to him on a number of occasions, he was in my opinion one of the good guys. A thoroughly decent chap who was happy to sign my Now Framed Dr. Who and the Daleks film poster in my house. I would not say i was a big fan of Roy's, but i admired the man and as a person he was a decent chap

Great guy! Never smoked a single cigarette in his life but died of the same thing smokers die of because of passive smoking. Such a sad loss of a wonderful life. RIP! The very talented Roy Castle.

Exactly. Cigarette smokers were murderers in my opinion. They were dirty and selfish people. They ruined many a person’s entertainment by puffing out their vile carcinogenic smoke all over the innocent non-smokers. I used to return home stinking of their acrid smoke. I too was diagnosed with a smoker’s cancer even though I never smoked a cigarette in my life. I was lucky and the cancer was removed before it had metastasised. Thank goodness the law in the UK now bans those filthy dirty people from murdering any more innocent people.

Roy Castle was the classic case of being a jack of so many trades but not quite a master of them... According to Michael Grade on "the battle for Saturday night" tv show a couple of years ago he was the perfect guest star but never quite good enough at any one thing to have his own prime time show... Decent summing up from a man who knows

Doctor who as a series was made for minimum cost and maximum effect, it was aimed at a younger crowd back then. Today's Dr who are very expensively made, and suspect a single episode cost as much to make as the original 1965 film

@ade425mxy - As I tell everyone - you can download my and ANY KZbin pieces and convert them to standard DVD, using freeware programmes: Orbit free downloader, Any Video Converter and your computer's disk-burning programme - just Google and download 'em. Good luck!

Very likely! Of course, it's unfair to compare the old series with the new. The only thing they share is the name and basic format. Other than that, it's like comparing the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies with the Fifties serials they were inspired by.

I loved that movie! I know Whovians (I think they call themselves) disapprove of it - then again, they probably disapprove of the CURRENT TV series - 'cause they no longer have infantile plots, rubber monsters and wobbly cardboard sets. Fact is, the (first) film and the NEW series are for GROWNUPS. I liked Roy in the film too - he provided the "outsider's" view-point. Much missed...

Well, that's a very ill-informed comment. Fans of the old series love the movies and the new series. The movies were based on the original TV serials so how can the TV be for kids and the movies for 'grownups'. More like the other way around. Susan was a teenager in the series and a 12 year old child in the movies so that disproves that statement. You are obviously not a fan so keep your opinions to yourself on a subject you obviously know nothing about.

Roy was a man for his time, but if we are to be honest his act isn't designed for a modern audience, we've all moved on, our pallets have changed.
