Oh yeah! Roy Clark is a national treasure. The guitar, banjo, fiddle, anything with strings Roy was a master at it. And an excellent entertainer as well. Never took himself too seriously.

My first concert at 8 years old with my parents was a Roy Clark show, he basically played every instrument on stage that night, incredible performer and multi instrumentalists, thanks This video was quite hypmotising lol

My first concert as well. In Roseburg Oregon. I would have been somewhere between 8-11 years old. Don’t know the year. All I know is we watched HEE HAW every week and we never missed his solo spot. It’s funny, yesterday I listened to a used vinyl I purchased last week for $1. ‘The Roy Clark Guitar Spectacular ‘ that has the original studio performance of this song. The rest of the album is great too.

@@yar9333 He's very underrated, my show that I saw would've been roughly around 1970 at a fair outdoors, awesome memories First of over several hundred live shows throughout my life, I appreciate my parents opening my eyes to live music at a very young age, so grateful

@@ResilientOne2112 May show would have been ‘72-‘75. It was also at the fairgrounds but wasn’t during the fair. It was indoors and his cousin Buck Trent also from Hee Haw was there on banjo. I had a Buck Trent 8-track a few years later, mostly comedy songs but a great banjo picker. I’ve been a live music buff the rest of my life. I ended up being a musician and played the same stage that he , and my second concert the original 4 Statler Bros the same year, played on. That was kind of cool. Anyway I go to 40-60 shows a year. Usually just local folks but we get a lot of national acts as well. I’m in the Vancouver WA/Portland OR area and there is just a ton of great live music venues around here. I live within 4 miles of 5 venues and within 10 miles of roughly 15 more ranging from small basement spaces to vintage theatres to an amphitheater and an arena. My Mom and Dad were members of the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers and they hosted a fiddle contest for over 40 years With lots of jamming in the parking lot and campgrounds when the fiddlers got together. Hours and hours of live music for free. And what a music education watching these ‘old guys’ play. I’m older now then most of them were back in the day 😁

@@yar9333 That's awesome, big prog rock fan, so limited to my favorite genre, it became multiple shows of big acts Pink Floydd 15 times Genesis 20 times Rush 30 times Ect....... being a teenager in the mid 70s met a lot of opportunities to see several acts starting out, it was a magical time!!

Roy was a masterful player, and he played a Gibson Byrdland (I think that is what he has here?) Terrible Teddy (Nugent) also played one,. Just a gorgeous guitar and the tone! Roy had this kinda smooth soulfulness too with tunes like "Gentle on My Mind," and "Yesterday When I was Young."

Imagine the hours of practice it took to have right hand so proficient. Let alone his mastery of the neck with his left. That guy was otherworldly. Deal with the devil kind of player. Here’s the same song, but played on an Ovation 12 String. As always, please enjoy responsibly. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHmVlJSagpKAmdk&pp=ygUUUk9ZIENMQVJLIE1hbGFndWVuYSA%3D

I heard when Eddie Van Halen was asked what it was like being the best guitar player around he said I don't know go ask Roy Clark. I heard this second hand so I am not 100% sure how true it is but that is cool if its true.

You should watch the version from The Odd Couple. It's neat to watch the reactions of the stars of that show (Jack Klugman & Tony Randall). They are just blown away by what they are witnessing. That version is on an acoustic 6-string. If you don't react to it at least watch it for yourself.

Yeah, more of a right hand technique showcase than anything else. The changes were the bog standard E-F-G Spanish guitar thing (Phrygian mode, I think). But Roy Clark always comes up as one of those guitar influences a lot of people forget about.
