Wonderful interview... So wonderful that I bought a ticket to Chris's next concert even before the halfway point - now I'm so excited. As a musician myself I'm so impressed with Chris Botti, not only his playing which is sublime but his philosophy, his integrity..... he certainly is a musician's musician and a huge inspiration now to me and I can't wait to be at his concert with all those fine musicians in his band. Thank you both so much for this interesting and enlightening conversation.

I find it interesting the fact that Chris knew he would never have the same type of success a rock star has. Yet he carved out a niche for himself by doing a musical variety show concert showcasing other talented musicians. Plus he regularly has guest musicians like John Mayer or Sting show up and jam with the band. He is also a very humble guy despite having a stellar career that included playing with Barbra Streisand, Sting, Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, John Mayer, and Katherine Jenkins.

Many many thanks Chris for this interview. O lot of people, trumpeters as well, are wondering why you have such a great tone, how you could devellop that great deep, big and resonating sound. Offcourse it must have something to do with a deep, maybe V shaped mouthpiece and maybe you wanna tell us what type of mp you are using most of the time, or allways. On KZbin you can find a young Russian or Ukranian trumpeter from Sebastopol and he sounds a bit like you. He has a beauiful deep dark tone and is a great soloist as well. Well Chris maybe you wanna tell us what kind of mp you are using. Stay healthy Chris and go on with what you are doing.

I love he says he’s a ‘student of the instrument’ because that’s how I feel about it. I do play in bands occasionally but I just love to listen to other trumpet players of all genres and practice for my own enjoyment. Maybe it’s because you have to make the note happen yourself that it engages me so much. I don’t know if everybody gets this?

Tom, trumpet is so hard. A sax blows across a wood reed, a key board player depresses a key, a percussionist taps an object. A trumpet player must vibrate his lips with a stream of air and change that configuration to make notes. I get it.

Regarding American Idol at 22:06, one of THE biggest reasons I don’t watch is what Chris brings up-there are no instrumentalists. I think there is a big audience for that.🎧🎺
